Welcome to DANCING ABOUT ARCHITECTURE, the 2nd music-oriented Lo-Tech Old-School HTML-site made by me, DaN Edman (the 1st one being the metallic "DxUxMxSxTx"). This is not an index-site over the 100 most avant-garde and difficult bands ever, but rather a collection of reviews, ideas and essays of some of my favourite subjects of musical originality, however subtle they may be. My intention is to inform, not to play Smart-ass, High-brow Critic! This site is new, chaotic and full of holes so watch your step. Expect constant updates and changes!

LAST UPDATE: 99-08-00

"Writing about music is like dancing about architechture..." F. Zappa

No, this is not a Zappa fan-page. I just liked this quote so much I chose to name this site from it. It carries a certain irony and says alot about the futility of what I'm trying to do: Reviewing/defining/explaining/informing about different forms of music in text only. That's basically the main idea with DAA, to write about original, "Extra-Special" music from a totally unique perspective: My own. I do this for 3 reasons:

  1. I've searched the web for alot of these bands and have often been disappointed at how ignored most of them are. They deserve so much more attention and if this media really aspires to cater to all interrests, I think a site like this is far from waste of server space.
  2. By doing this site I can get in contact with likeminded people and exchange ideas and musical discoveries. Like all devoted musicfans I've developed a sort of addiction through the years and need constant increase of dosage = more amazeing bands that take me places I haven't been before.
  3. I'm deeply, seriously and totally in love with music. This love manifests itself in, among other things, a "missionary drive" to push all my little musical discoveries on the people around me. I've done this through fazines (PIE MAG), Radioshows (PIE Radio, RC Radio, XS Radio) and through organizing gigs in my local area (Rockconnection). Now it's time for the website.
This time I'm litterary D.I.Y. and I don't have to compromise the content with any co-workers. This is my very own musical ego-trip down to the last byte. I hope you will enjoy it too. You won't find much bandhistories/complete discog's, but loads of links and short and to-the-point reviews that should wet your appetite. This is nothing like an index of all or even one tenth of what's out there. It's your job to fill in the blanks by contacting me.

The Content

  • The bestest bands - an index to the extra special

Just a list of some of the coolest bands ever and a quick hint to what kind of stuff I'm into. It has links to most of the bands/reviews on this site. A great way to check out the latest updates!

  • The * C A R D I A C S * interview

Hell Yezz!! Originally made by yours truly for PIEmag fanzine/Pie-A-Site. Now that P-A-S is virtually an unmanned vessel afloat on the cybersea and will probably sink any day, I've chosen to savour this important part of PIE-history on DAA. CARDIACS is the greatest, most innovative and sincere musical unit ever to have graced this planet with it's serene presence. No shit. Ask anyone.

  • When Dinosars Walked the Earth - the 60's & 70's

Yes, there's actually music that old worth mentioning. I'm as baffled as you are. Just a few examples, but this part will hopefully grow. Maybe with the help of anyone of U visitors?

  • Prog Wave, Jazz Punk & other Extra Special Wave

The largest page by far. One of the 1st things I knew I had to do some stuff on was this much ignored musical phenomena, "Progressive New Wave", "Jazz Punk" or whatever, first appearing around '78, slowly going into hibernation around '81. However corny these labels may sound to some of you I strongly suggest you check out these pages if you have any interrest whatsoever in obscure music.

  • The tasty 80's - a few musical misfits

The 80's were hard on the true freaks. Here are some of the rare examples of cool & unusual pop & rock from this tasteful decade. Lotsa holes - watch for updates...

  • The alterno 90's - not everything is fine again

Boom! Crackle! Bang! "Alternative" music broke and with it the need for a new form of underground. Lotsa cool bands appearing these last couple of years! "Smash Retro!" More holes, I'm working on this...

  • Into the Phuture - technoelectrica goes avant-garde

"True confessions of an ex-electro-hater" - The beeps and blips are not what they used to be (Thank god!)

  • Diving the Swedish dumpsters

A report on musical oddities from my own back yard, where I'm able to dig the deepest. Some really obscure stuff for U here.

  • Incredibly Strange Music - extra corny rekkids

I'm proud to admit I was inspired by those RE/Search books, but I've just started sniffing on this "non-genre", so don't expect too much.

  • Rants, Thoughts, Essays, blah, blah, blah etc...

Various texts on various thoughts on various music. "Under Construction"

  • Want List

All the free porn pics, plans to neutron bombs and fresh wares you ever wanted to know about! Promise!

  • Contactificate Me! Communicate I!

When going through these pages you'll find a million cross references between them (for obvious reasons). I made these classifications to simplify navigation. One page per band would be to much extra work - all information on one page would take too much time to download. One band might have released their 1st album in the late 80's and turn up in the 90's section since they've been the most active there etc, but I still enjoy putting music in it's historical point in time. It says so much about the spirit of those bands in relation to the spirit of the times. Here's a disclaimer on labeling and "pidgeonholing".

...and remember: RED text means WANTED!

This elevator is too slow for me!--->
