This ridiculous band name has popped up with increasing frequency in recent years in discussions of underappreciated olde Scandinavian* Metal, and while I mostly agree w/ the decades-old sentiments of my Greek Metal Brother below, I think this one deserves an ever so slighly longer comment...
"Into The Night" keeps all its promises of both a dragonridin', sword-held-high pace and some truly brilliant, DarkenedEpicPower-guitar noodles in the opening moments of the track. All is well on the north-eastern front and the Steel is truly laid down by numbers in the manner that should please most die-hard fans of gallopy, olde melo-Power. Is it as great and X-tra special as similar pearls like
Hardline,
Randy or
Black Axe? Neeeuuuoh... not quite. Maybe the fact that it's about half a decade behind its time and thus there being a huge legacy of Heavy Metal anthems of similar repute will somewhat leave them in the dust, but man, sometimes you just have to raise your chalice in praise of pure craftmanship. Other than being a mere 8-outta-10'er, this track does basically everything right.
The chorus of the "Closer To Me" flipside might be a bit too much on the Americana-Rock side of things, but creds are duly due due to the fact that it's still another proper Heavy Metal tune at heart, keeping the ever-looming Demon of Shitty-Schmallad-B-sides thoroughly at bay in fast (even faster than the A-side actually), early Pretty Maids/
Tarot-fashion. All in all not bad for a band who basically christened themselves 'Mullet'...
This is one of the best and rarest scandinavian metal singles (up there with
HIROSHIMA 7",
JACKWAVE 7",
DIZZINESS 7" etc). Both songs destroy....
A must have.....
