Some olde Dutch proto-Metal...

Post by DaN »

Following up on this topic, here's a couple of early Dutch hard rock/proto-Metal tunes taken from the local comps Koppop, A Maiden Effort and U-Tracks. There's more where this came from, so let me know if you like the taste of it.

Thanks a lot as well Dan !

As i suspected the track of Howling Hurricane is the best of the 3 i know.
Black Flame is amazing !
Panty had the other track that called my attention.

To be honest, even the other tracks all of them have interesting parts.

Liked your compilation. Cheers.

Thanks for the oportunity to hear these tracks DaN, all of these songs have something going for them to my ears, with particularly good guitar playing from all concerned. For me, the only exception is the Inner Space track which didn't shine initially, but it may be a grower.
Don't know about calling these tracks 'Proto-Metal' though. For me that catch-all term more correctly applies to bands of the late 60s/early 70s era, whereas most of these songs could more accurately described as Hard Rock/Heavy Rock/70s HM.
My apologies for being a pedantic stickler & i hope that didn't make me sound an ungrateful wretch.
Whilst i may be wretched i am anything but ungrateful.
I just posted a few good examples of early 70s Dutch Proto-Metal in the original 'Dutch Steel' thread for those with an interest in that very early scene.
Whilst listening to your collection of Neder-retro-rawkers' i was reminded of this rather spiffing Dutch gem from '79 which would fit rather well alongside the songs you posted. You'll likely be familiar with The Rods cover version, but i personally prefer the choppier slightly new-wavey guitar tone & female vox of the original:
