Mortal Threat

Originally assembled in June 2005 by Kostas B. and Tassos B. (full surnames currently unknown) on bass and guitar respectively, Athenian Thrash Metal outfit MORTAL THREAT soon grew into a quartet with the addition of drummer John Georgakapoulos (CAEDES CRUENTA, FORGOTTEN, METALMORFOSIS, etc.) and vocalist Kostas D. Having completed their initial lineup, the band proceeded with gigs in the Athenian vicinity and entered Hangar Studios (Athens) the following year for the recording of a two-track demo CDr.

Although bittersweetly brief, “Trapped Inside” (2006) comes off as an earfeast with its gratiously raw, bass-heavy sound and general old school attitude. Rudimentary but effective and a no-frills approach to the riffcraft, hearing these tracks reminds one of what made 1980s Speed- and Thrash Metal à la early IRON ANGEL, KREATOR or SLAYER such an enticing proposal in the first place.

Despite such a promising debut outing, the next sign of creativity from the MORTAL THREAT camp would lie some years into the future. In 2009, John G. left the drummer position and was replaced by Manos Kehagias (CONVIXION, STRIKELIGHT, VOMIT BITCH, etc.) More gigs followed, as well as preparations in 2010 for the recording of a full-length album, initially released on CD via Athens Thrash Attack in 2011 under the title “Psychotic Paralysis”. Stylistically, the band sticked to its guns (including re-recordings of both previous demo tracks), yet the significantly drier production job granted the songs a markedly different character.

After a final shift of drummer in the wake of the album recording 2011-2012 – adding Vasilis Tsafas (THE CRUCIFIER, MENTALLY DEFILED, VULTUR, etc.) – MORTAL THREATdecided to fold all activity. As a sign of proper closure, “Psychotic Paralysis” was reissued on vinyl in 2013 by Greek Metal/Punk label Weird Faces Productions in a limited run of 250 copies.
