Another testament to the wellspring of talent present in the Greek Trad. Metal scene of the 1990s, the Piraeus-based quartet of FIRESTORM was formed in September 1996, playing speedy and energetic Heavy/Power Metal with emphasis on strong and memorable compositions.
After having circulated a brief one-track promo tape – not aimed at the public – in 1998, FIRESTORM unleashed their first (and sadly, only) proper work with 1999’s demo CDr “Siege by Fire”. At the time, the lineup for the band was: Lefteris Karafilis (vocals, guitars), Julio Koutsogeorgiou (bass – AGNOSIA), Giorgios Chatzimanolis (drums) and C. Chionas (keyboards). Recorded at Kakofonix Studios (Piraeus) and graced with lush fantasy artwork courtesy of the legendary Panos Sounas, “Siege of Fire” stands out as one of the finest Heavy/Power demo debuts of the late-1990s Greek scene, with its varied song material, strong vocals and enthusiastic spirit. The underground press seems to have agreed, granting the demo very positive reviews at the time of release.
No further FIRESTORM releases are known to exist, and one is tempted to once again blame the obligatory military service for cutting short the career of a promising band.
