Not to be mistaken with any of the other 10-15 Metal bands sporting the same name (or the Cretan Pop quintet, for that matter), DIES IRAE was a Kalamata-based Death/Thrash act from the mid-1990s. The band was comprised of four members, some of which participated in other groups active in the Kalamatan underground scene: Evangelos Kefaleas (vocals, bass – ANGELS OF SORROW, NEKYIA, UNHOLY THRONE, etc.), Aris Babouskopoulos (guitars – ANGELS OF SORROW), Michalis Alexopoulos (bass) and Kostas Dimitropoulos (drums).
DIES IRAE stayed together long enough to issue one demo tape, “Demo ‘95” (1995), followed the next year by a compilation CD, “The Low of Silence” (1996), including the previous demo along with live tracks recorded during two gigs in their hometown in 1994 and 1996 respectively.
