Dementia (Heavy Metal)

Thessaloniki (Central Macedonia)
Heavy Metal
Active:
2004-unknown

Formed in Thessaloniki in 2004, DEMENTIA (not to be confused with the Athenian Death/Thrash band with the same name) started out doing covers of Gothic/Doom acts such as ANATHEMA, PARADISE LOST and SENTENCED, but soon shifted to composing their own songs. This material eventually ended up on the band’s sole CDr demo release “Demo 2005” (2005), recorded at X-Music Studios (Thessaloniki) and also included covers of PARADISE LOST, ANATHEMA and the lesser-known Finnish Gothic Metal group CHARON. Stylewise, DEMENTIA went in a more Melodic Heavy Metal-based direction (compared to their inspirational sources) with clean vocals and prominent use of keyboards.

Since no further releases have surfaced, we can safely assume that the band folded after “Demo 2005”.

Not to be confused with their townmates in DIMENTIA (both bands originated from Athens), DEMENTIA was a mid-1990s group who allegedly played some form of Thrash/Death Metal. As far as we are aware of, there’s only one promo credited to DEMENTIA, simply entitled “Promo 1996”. One name connected to the band is Giannis Moraitis (courtesy of Metal-Archives), but we don’t even know which instrument he might’ve played (he should probably not be mistaken with his more pop-oriented namesake!)

Please feel free to share further information on this band.
