A Thessaloniki-based band not to be missed for the Death/Thrashers who’ve already heard it all. CRUCIFIX was formed back in 1988, originally as a Thrash/Speed Metal outfit, drawing on influences from staple bands like SLAYER, SODOM, SEPULTURA and PROTECTOR. As for lineups… well our data is in a bit of a mess, which makes it difficult to sketch it out chronologically. What we do know is that the band included George “Julius” Vartholomeos (guitars – REGENT, MORS TABULA RASA) and Mikalis “Mike” Verron (drums – REGENT, SADISTIC WASTE).
While both “Demo 1990” and the live recording “Live Tape” (1991) remains yet to be uncovered, “Beyond the Graves” (1993) shows a clear progression towards more deathly territories in a style similar to the more melody-based works of their countrymen DEATH COURIER.
In 1994, CRUCIFIX morphed into REGENT and went on producing high-quality underground Death Metal on demos tapes like “Black Moments of Rapture” (1997). After the demise of REGENT in 2003 – their last activity was supporting NILE in Greece – mainman George Julius founded the Industrial Black/Death unit MORS IN TABULA as a continuation of CRUCIFIX/REGENT.
