You like Thrash Metal done old school the proper way? Then look no further than the Athens-based maniacs in CRUCIFIER (aka THE CRUCIFIER). Since the mid-1990s, they’ve offered up a veritable smorgasbord of the genre, including of course the classic Bay Area- and Teutonic phalanges as well as the more Punk-influenced sound of D.R.I., or even instances of rabid Death/Thrash. They’ve also shared the live stage with many classic acts such as DISCHARGE, D.R.I., PILEDRIVER, MORBID SAINT and NECRONOMICON.
CRUCIFIER was originally founded in 1995 by cousins Hlias “Thanatoid” Kyriazis (vocals) and Giorgos Kyriazis (bass). As for the remaining members, let’s suffice to say that the band has featured an insane amount of members (especially guitarists), with Hlias “Thanatoid” being the sole constant factor over the years.
Four demos were produced between 1995-2001 before the band decided to finance their debut full-length “Merciless Conviction” privately in 2002 (rereleased in 2009 by Thailand-based Hell Productions). A similar situation was repeated with their second album “Cursed Cross” (2006), which was initially issued by the band on CD and later the same year released on vinyl by the German label Anger of Metal Records. For the newcomers, “Cursed Cross” is a great place to delve into CRUCIFIER’s catalogue, as it features some of the best material by the band presented in a highly energized manner, as well as showing CRUCIFIERs ability to integrate the sounds of North American and European Thrash in a very natural manner.
In order to avoid potential misconceptions, the changed their name to THE CRUCIFIER in 2008 and has since gone on to release several split seven-inches as well as a third studio album called “Voices in My Head” (2017).
