Condemnation

After having formed in Athens in 1990, CONDEMNATION put out a very promising demo tape entitled “Words of Paranoid” (1991) before scoring a deal with Molon Lave during the label’s heyday. The result was 1993’s “Entering the Gates of Doom” 12-inch EP, which must be counted as pioneering work within the field atmospheric Thrash Metal.

Building on a fundament of Teutonic Thrash/Speed, CONDEMNATION employ the typical “pedal-point”-riffing technique of the Germans, but extends the frontiers by embroiding the guitar figures with melodic flourishes that gives the music a certain mystical touch. This aspect is further enhanced by extravagant lead guitar work and a tasteful use of keyboards at crucial points. Moreover, with the recording taking place at the legendary Molon Lave Studios, the heavy-on-atmospherics production bears some semblance to works associated with the contemporary Hellenic Black Metal scene – which of course fits the music very well.

Despite having this quality release under their belt, the guys called it quits in 1996 without any further offerings. Things have started to move again in the CONDEMNATION camp though, with the band getting back together again in 2016. In addition to composing new material, the band has also put on live shows together with old domestic cults like PIRANHA.
