Cantath

Sources tell us that CANTATH was a Death Metal band/project from the Pieria region in Central Macedonia, formed by members of the equally obscure Thrash Metal group SARNATH. CANTATH reportedly recorded a three-song demo in 1997, simply entitled “Demo 97” – the same year as SARNATH put out their one and only demo release as well.

In fact, CANTATH/SARNATH are the only metallic acts we’re aware of from this region, which is kind of strange considering its vicinity to both Kozani and Larissa, who both spawned plenty of Metal bands around the same time. Moreover, Pieria has become immortalized in Greek mythology, referring to the “Pierian Spring” as a sacred abode of the Muses and a palace worship dedicated to Orpheus. According to the legend, inspiration is granted to anyone who stops by for a sip from the spring.
