“We’ve worked very hard for the creation of this demo. It took us 3 years to write these songs. This is our first studio work. We know that you will enjoy this demo, the only thing you have to do is play the cassete [sic] and bang your head ‘till you bleed…”

A few lines taken from the liner notes accompanying BLOODLUST’s eponymous debut demo tape (1994). Persuasive indeed, and quite fitting given the conviction and love for true Heavy Metal that permeates the four tracks, which remain the sole legacy of this Athenian entity who reach directly for the heart of the listener with their charming blend of MANOWAR, IRON MAIDEN and Hard’n’Heavy/Randy Rhoads-ian riffs.

As stated in an interview conducted by George “The Omen” of Power Metal ‘Zine, BLOODLUST was formed sometime in the very late-1980 or early-1990s by Nikos “Nick-Nick” Outsikas (vocals – BLACK VOYAGE, CRYSTAL CLEAR, OUTCAST) and Panagiotis Kirkenidis (guitars). Soon after, Panagiotis Kontos joined on drums. With this lineup, the band recorded their self-titled debut during winter of ‘93 until spring ‘94 in Praxis Studios – joined by Praxi’s sound enginner “Coty” on session keyboards. Since the band didn’t have a bass player at the time, Panos K. did the bass parts as well (credited as “Peter” in the liner-notes).

The band also did some gigs at the time, and there was talk about a second demo about to be recorded – although they still hadn’t solved the bassist issue. As far as we know, this second demo never materialized though, and the band eventually folded, with vocalist Nikos moving on to join the equally worthy Heavy/Power acts CRYSTAL CLEAR and OUTCAST.
