In this demo, with a designation as “promo”, Athenians BLOOD COVERED offer a peculiar set of songs. As an introduction there is the homonymous composition of the demo, which with the beautiful melodies of the piano prepares you for something really good. The next song is "Dawn of the Fire Age", and it’s distinguished for its epic style, while in the chorus the characteristic black metal aesthetics of the contemporary Greek scene is clear. Certainly, it is not irrelevant that three members of NECROMANTIA participate in the recording of this demo, while in this particular song Gunther Theys from the Belgians ANCIENT RITES also performs backing vocals.
"The Other View" is an excellent metal composition, speedy and at the same time dark. "Wounded Knee" is a nearly 12-minute epic that continues the band's commitment to American Indian culture, which debuted on the 1991 EP "Winterhawk". The song overflows with melody and emotion without becoming tedious. The guitars, acoustic and electric, unfold very nice themes (solos are outstanding), while the piano and the keyboards played by Inferno are essential accompaniments. Personally, I find this performance better than that of "Wrong Direction" LP seven years later, as it is more raw and “full” and really awe-inspiring.
In general, the demo in its entirety, and despite the mediocre sound quality, seems to be a quite ambitious endeavor. It consists of well-written and well-played songs, which unfortunately didn’t manage to be redeemed in a successful sequel.
