BLEAKNESS was a low-profile Death/Doom-act formed in Thessaloniki in 1999. They released their only demo tape called “Shroud of Time” the same year, before once again drifting off into obscurity. Rather than aiming for the “gothic” style common for Greek bands at the time (with NIGHTFALL being perhaps the most illustrious example) BLEAKNESS sounded more akin to the classic bands from the British Isles – PARADISE LOST in particular. The songs are quite varied as far as tempo goes and mix rustic, CELTIC FROST-inspired riffing with lyrical lead guitar work, atmospheric keyboard pads and deep, guttural vocals courtsey of Kostas Triantafillidis of EMBALMED. Well-worth checking out if you’re a Death/Doom fanatic.
