Artificial Peace

Varia (Central Macedonia)
Death Metal, Thrash Metal
Active:
1990-1993

Hailing from Veria (Central Macedonia), ARTIFICIAL PEACE operated in the intersection between fully mature Thrash Metal and Proto-Death Metal. Raw, yet with a progressive bent to the songwriting and with some interesting guitarwork that taken as a whole brings to mind early AUTOPSY or the Swiss MESSIAH. Both the drummer George G Yiou and the bass player/vocalist George T “Demonas” also played in the excellent progressive Death Metal band DISMAED during the mid-1990s. Nowadays, the latter is active in another Death Metal act called DISCRETION. Unfortuantely, there’s little information to be found on Nick I (guitars).

For their second demo proposal (their debut remains to be discovered), ARTIFICIAL PEACE offers a decent slab of old school wickedness of the kind contemporary bands find it difficult to emulate in a satisfactory manner. Nothing overly complicated, but highly enjoyable much thanks to the spirit-arousing rhythms and the quirky, semi-progressive riff-craft. At it’s best, I’d dare compare “Beastly Instincts” to the early works of AUTOPSY.

It doesn’t last much longer than ten minutes, but I can guarantee that anyone with a remote interest in late-1980s/early-1990s Death Metal will find it a delightfully morbid listen.
