First formed back in the late-1980s, APPARENTLY DEAD counts among the early purveyors of Progressive Power Metal in Hellas. The earliest known lineup included the core guitarist duo Stavros Bonikos (guitars – BRAINFADE, KINETIC, ZERO HOUR) and Dimitris Bonikos (guitars) along with Zacharias Georgopoulos (bass) and Kostas Tsopanos (drums).
Despite the fact that their official discography is limited to one single compilation appearance on Molon Lave’s “Screwing the Sane” (1991) compilation LP, APPARENTLY DEAD remained fairly active within the Athenian scene during their first phase of existence (roughly between 1988-1998). In addition to numerous live appearances in the capital (including a spot at the legendary Molon Lave 10-day festival in October 1991), APPARENTLY DEAD allegedly recorded two demo tapes (in 1993 and 1997, respectively), which remain unreleased.
15 years after their initial breakup, APPARENTLY DEAD reunited in 2013, featuring a revamped lineup including along with original guitarists Dimitris and Stavros Bonikos, Alexandros Costarakos (vocals – MARAUDER), Vassilis Pyrris (bass) and Stavros Alexopoulos (drums). Their mission…? To record the band’s first full-length album! Since then, the band has posted a handful of newly-recorded songs on their official pages, which in terms of style harkens back to their early Prog/Power excursions. In addition to fresh song material, they’ve also performed several concerts in later years. Now all we’re waiting for is that album, guys!
