I remember seeing an early seventies british horror movie called Horror Hospital (with the horrendous "actor" Robin Askwith) maybe 10 or 15 years ago. This movie contained a short scene where a hard rock band called Mystic (hope I got the name right) were playing a song which I kind of liked. It ewoked some slight eighties Pentagram vibes (I hadn't heard any seventies stuff by them by then) - but that could also be a psychological defense having to endure mr Askwiths facial expressions. Anyone knowing if "Mystic" was a real band or if they were a real band using a pseudonym? If they were, are there any recordings available commercially?

Unfortunately the LP doesn't quite live up to its cover art. It's basically a novelty-record with this echoed voice describing optical illusions/parlor tricks in a grade school halloween party-manner.Cochino wrote:I saw that Doctor Druids cover in a Creepy magazine and thought that it would be an amazing cover for a Doom album.
You don't know TRUE Horror until you've actually heard her singingI think the scariest one is the Mrs Millers Greatest Hits, the way she's holding that mic is frightening

Just threw in that one + the Maranata LP to make a nice, even square. Then again: TRUE Horror!!
Killer album cover, but the music is sort of lightweight rock/HR meets powerpop. Swedish one-hit-wonders from the early 80's.What's Attack-Vampire Rock like?
No soundtracks - a sordid mix of 50's-80's "Horror Rock", Spoken-Word novelty records and other oddities, like ALLAN GADD - an 80's Swedish school play about a teen vampire, DRACULA And C - a Horror Disco (?!?!) record etc..Fuck there's that TROP FEROSS ep again!! Dan I don't really think much of that at all but then again RIPPER and DEATH SS are kiiler!!! Are the rest horror soundtracks or something??
MIGHTY SPHINCTER deserves some extra attention though. Awesome, unique, doomy & sick Horror Music that shouldn't deter Metal purists too much. The only musical reference I can think of would be NIGRO MANTIA minus the Metal.
TROP FEROSS wins me over on sheer originality and for sounding exactly like the ghoulish sounds the 'Horror Metal'-term brings to mind but sure, the album is a bit all-over-the-place. One of those bands that I really would like to hear more of just to figure them out properly.
It's neat, 'Wavy' Horror Rock for sure (actually picked up this one at the KIT metal market), but the real treat is the B-side of their "Great Balls Of Fire" 7" - "Witch Woman"! An awesome mix of DEATH SS and Alice Cooper!Nightmare! I remember their "I Wanna Be a Monster in a Movie" single. Kind of a Rocky Horror vibe.

Just had to share the awesome "Witch Woman" w/ UK (?) studio-project Horror Rock act NIGHTMARE and thus bump this very important thread.
Dan, I'm really enjoying that Witchy Woman song. Thanks!
One can't talk about the roots of horror metal without mentioning The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.
Also, GJ reminded me of another movie, Rocktober Blood.

Apart from the intro to Fire, there's hardly any horror lyrics or evil music on the CWoAB album.Keir wrote:One can't talk about the roots of horror metal without mentioning The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.

But you are right in saying that one can't talk about the roots of horror metal without mentioning Vincent Crane. Death Walks Behind You!

And his voice sure as hell doesn't suite that appearance.
I guess that I'm just used to the huge hair'd old stuff…
Watch the Me Against The World video after that and you’ll know what I mean.
