Horror Metal
Thoughts, favorites, most overhyped bands, etc.. discuss!
Obviously 'horror metal' refers mainly to the lyrical content and imagry of a band, so many different musical styles can fall into this category.
I'm not very familiar with many such bands; it seems that the horror vibe is a great idea for metal bands, but it risks coming across as very cheesy if a band is not careful.

Even if I'm fully aware that there never was a "Horror Metal Scene" and hardly any bands that cathegorized themselves like this in the 80's, I'll gladly delude myself of the contrary. Hail Horror Hail!
From the olde days I can only think of 5 bands that would qualify as 100% bona-fide Horror Metal, and that's of corpse King Diamond, DEATH SS, RIPPER, MANIMALS and HALLOWEEN (US). Some runner-ups/"90%'ers" would be:
TROP FEROSS
DELIVERANCE (UK)
EXORCIST
IMPALER
...then comes various Doom/Black/Speed-acts with somewhat similar lyrical themes but with a more individual image.
Always been curious if there ever were any old 7"/demo/compilation acts that would belong in the 2 first cathe-Gorys?
