Greenworld started out as a record importer and distributor in 1978 ("Greenworld Distribution"). After putting out the Mötley Crüe debut album on Leathür Records in 1981, they created the Enigma label (see also Metal Blade). Greenworld later solidified as its own record releasing imprint, while still continuing to do plenty of co-op releases with other labels. Stylewise they seem to have had a weakness for Glam/"Street" Metal, and many of their releases weren't related to Metal at all, but they did hit the nail on the head every once in a while too and there's some really interesting details about the label that's worth noting. For instance they helped New Renaissance Records get off their feet in their early days and was one of the first to market Roadracer in the US. Also, there are no less than 3 known test-pressing-only obscurities made by the label, and perhaps even more left to be discovered considering all the holes in their cat# system. Rumor has it their swift demise in 1986 was the result of financial troubles in the wake of the infamous Frankenchrist trial, since Greenworld was responsible for distributing this record in LA.
