your favourite albums from the 1995-2000 period?

Post by roihlem »

Personally I think this was the period, when Metal was nearly dead. It seems that the interest in Metal was at its` lowest with the big bands releasing dissapointing albums, like Maiden without Bruce, Priest without Halford, Metallica having left Metal, Slayer changing their style, and so on.
Still there were some great albums that did not follow the trend. What are your faves?

Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side
Darkthrone - Panzerfaust
Twisted Tower Dire - The Curse of Twisted Tower
Pentacle - ...Rides the Moonstorm
Agent Steel - Omega Conspiracy
Testament - The Gathering
Solstice - New Dark Age

I was listening to a lot of death metal and black metal in that period. Probably 1995-1998 was the time in my life when i was least enthusiastic about metal in general

In the early 90s i was too busy to get all the cool 80s CDs from OMEN, FATES WARNING, SANCTUARY and IRON MAIDEN, so i didn't have time to realize that metal almost died, haha.

Some that impressed me during that time:

SACRED STEEL - Reborn In Steel
I adore this album, one of the best German albums of post-80s.

DARK AT DAWN - Baneful Skies
Dark and melanchalic Power Metal

TWISTED TOWER DIRE - The Curse Of Twisted Tower
SKULLVIEW - Legends Of Valor
SHADOW KEEP - same
KAMELOT - Eternity (so much better than their new stuff)
WICKED LESTER - Better Off Dead
ZAXAS - same
ICED EARTH - Burnt Offerings
RUNNING WILD - Masquerade

No it's not, much much better. Second one was a major disapointment for me, but the first is an ultimate killer, a flaweless album in my books, maybe you can give the band a second chance or at least the debut album.

This era contained to so many awesome albums listing them all would be a bad idea.

But some of my top favorites:
Abstract Algebra - Abstract Algebra
Arachnes - The Goddess Temple [The only thing they ever did that is not generic Italian power metal]
Ashes to Ashes - Shapes of Spirits
Blaze - Silicon Messiah
Dozer - In the Tail of a Comet
Grave Digger - Tunes of War, Excalibur, Knights of the Cross
Griffin (Norway) - Wasteland Serenades
Ivory Tower - Ivory Tower
Nocturnal Rites - Afterlife
Ossian - Fémzene
Pathos - Hoverface
Praying Mantis - Forever in Time
Rage - Black in Mind
Seelenwinter - If Soul Turns to Flesh
Shadow Gallery - Carved in Stone, Tyranny
Skullview - Legends of Valor
Ten - The Robe [Not really metal but incredibly good]
Treasure Land - Questions

And many many more.

EDIT: Marken: Wicked Maraya - Cycles is from 1994

Ahh, you're right.

Rumblefist: The Syris-debut is great. Played it a couple of weeks ago for the first time in years.
