Metal From Alaska

Post by Fucking Åmål »

I have heard so far only three bands from Alaska that are CRILLSON,SNOW WHITE and PANDEMONIUM(I also love to hear PLADS).CRILLSON i dare to say that they were one of the best 5 US-90's bands ever 90's Power Metal with high vocals great music unfortunately the production is very, very bad worser than demo.Second SNOW WHITE great obscure band that released only this EP with three songs as for what they play,i say they play some classical mid-80's bands reminding of all these classical US bands of 80's.And PANDEMONIUM i say that i have heard only their first album ''Heavy Metal Soldiers'' from 82 and it is a slight above average band.Making some really great songs on it but unfortunately some fillers. Are you familiar with other Heavy Metal bands from this region?

I'm sure I've heard of more bands but I can't remember any other than those you mentioned. The last PANDEMONIUM lp "The Kill" is quite good trad. US Metal while the 2 first ones are mediocre HR/HM.

That SNOW WHITE EP sure is great. Doesn't it say on the cover that this was supposed to be a pre-taster for a full-length LP? Anyone knows if it ever got recorded and if this complete session is awailable anywhere?

Can't add much about THE PLADS that's not in the review. Some parts are fucking brilliant, some I wouldn't even call Metal at all.

Never heard CRILLSON.

Oh, I didnt know PANDEMONIUM hailed from Alaska. At least something to make this band a tiny bit interesting (well, that and the uber-track LAST STAR from the otherwise average "The Kill" album)
SNOW WHITE is very good IMO, I am glad to have it in my collection.

Objection. The vocals are great, just the way i like them in US metal, but the music itself didn't move me that much. Decent, a little bit uninspired though. Many points lost from the bad production. The guitars sound very thin, that's not a power metal guitar sound for sure.

SNOWHITE are amazing. PANDEMONIUM: I have heard two of their albums, they never drew my attention. PLADS=LP from my want list.

I am glad that all of you agree about SNOW WHITE(not Snowhite there was another US act with LP in the 80's) i wished this supposedly album was released.
Now about CRILLSON at first i heard it i didn't liked it because of the high pitched vocals but then it growed on me.This band gived me the impression that it tried to sound modern for its time(see drums/rhythms)but for some reason the band produced a shitty sound making a bad result for production making them at the same time sound enough old-school.I don't know maybe they didn't had some international company behind them or they weren't enough rich  But this band delivers great music believe me Sten and people that like US power 86-88 will like it.Am i supposed to make an upload of it?
About PANDEMONIUM are very average but they have two or three trax on their debut(for example the song ''Heavy Metal Soldiers'')that deserve to be heard.
About other bands surely they exist but i talk about our genre.

A Crillson upload would be great. I also never heard that Snow White EP. I think I still have to learn a lot. There are so many bands out there...

R.I.P. - Pandemonium's Chris Resch

Post by metal gaijin »

I found Pandemonium to be pretty average as well...rather uneven in their songs, swinging too quickly from decent metal like "Last Star" to ultracheese like "Boys in the Bright White Sports Car"...

Even so, it's still no good to hear that the lead singer recently passed away...a buddy of mine just sent me this snip of info...

----

Chris Resch, former lead singer for the California metal band PANDEMONIUM - which released three albums on the Metal Blade label in the 1980s - died on August 24, 2007 at his home in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was 48 years old.

According to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Resch, 48, who did painting and drywall work in recent years, pursued dreams of a music career in the early 1980s with his brothers David and Eric. The Resch brothers had grown up around music in Fairbanks, where their parents - Dorothy Resch and the late Dave Resch - owned the Upper Limits club on Second Avenue.

They formed PANDEMONIUM and played in many clubs and concerts in the Los Angeles area for a decade, releasing three albums over the years: 1983's "Heavy Metal Soldiers", 1985's "Hole in the Sky" and 1988's "The Kill".

Q: Is THE PLADS hard to find? I seem to run into a copy about once a year over here. Should I pick it up for you, for trade/sale if it's below say 30 euros?

Sad news about PANDEMONIUM, mediocre or not :(

I agree with Dan, Plads is a very dubious affair - when I listened to it years ago I did not consider it much metal... and let it pass. But I grabbed the Snow White EP when I had the chance....
