So does anybody know any decent restaurants nearby? I've been to KIT several times but never got further than burgers or warming up ravioli on the campsite.

Better save that money for records, I know I'd do that.
Naah, these days I prefer a decent meal and one record less. If I had to choose between records or going to a restaurant I'd still go for the records (like I did years and years when I was a student), but now I can get both.
I seem to remember KIT completely overflowing with cheap records, between 10 and 20 euros. There are no cheaper records than that anywhere in the world. Scorpions and Gary Moore records don't count as real records.

Check out nearby hotels, one year we stayed in one about 10 min walk from the hall and locals had lunch etc there. It was called Die Rose or something.
i think i stayed at 'die rose' on the very first KIT, it was fun,the owner is a chef, and there is a huge protestantic crucifix outside where you can take very stupid satanic photos
I am so true my mp3 player's screen has slight ringwear

This nearby place served pretty good pizzas accompanied by a looping metal soundtrack that featured, amongst lot's of crap, Riot's Thundersteel.
