It's about time someone made a 'Trüe Kûlt NWOG(erman)HM 7"s' 2LP retrospect compilation, don't you think? While they (Germany) were a year or 2 behind the UK and Sweden as far as pioneering this sound, there's still enough '79-83 material around to fill at least 2 or 3 of these types of comps I'm sure. KHAILY would most certainly be a must-inclusion, even if I'm not sure I'd put their 2 single tunes preserved to posterity as Prime Opening Tracks.
You still gotta love a title like that A-side, right? So obviously it's no German equivalent of "Nuns Have No Fun" or anything, but there's enough NWOHM-drive and energy present to please us fans of ze Olde Obcüre Steel for sure. It could just be cultural bias on my part, but I do hear some parallells to various early Swedish icons like Silver Mountain, Glory Bells, Universe etc here, possibly more so than their UK contemporaries, even if the tempo is similar to that of icons like TOPT, More, Gaskin and the likes. The spacey keys opening the slower "I'm Still On The Run" B-side could be the highlight of the EP, and even if the song as a whole is closer to "Down To Earth"-era Rainbow melo-HR, I'd still consider it the stronger of the 2 tracks present by a miniscule margin. Also, Jürgen's vocal talents
are especially prominent on this track and clearly waaaaay above the German average to come. Too bad we never got to hear more of him, since the band never left any other recorded legacy behind, nor continued on the HM path as individual musicians.
A very rare piece of forgotten Olde Euro-Heavy lore indeed, but so bloody obscure it might very well be fairly affordable if it (in all unlikelyhood) should cross your path..
