DAVIDIAN started out as a trio in 1995, playing Punk-influenced Crossover Heavy/Power/Thrash Metal. Original members included Akis (vocals, guitars), Kostas “Strange” (guitars – STILLBORN VIRTUE) and George Vasilopoulos (bass, drums – MYTHAL, STILLBORN VIRTUE, THUNDERING SILENCE, etc.)
In late-1996, the band entered Voices Studio (Athens) together with session keyboardist Alexis Demokratis for the recording of the debut demo tape “Friday the 13th” (1997), featuring four songs sandwiched between brief into/outro tracks with samples taken from the recently released “Tales from the Crypt” horror/comedy “Demon Knight” (1995). Stylistically, the music builds on a core Heavy/Power/Thrash, but the songs are prone to take off in diverging directions – even including a straight-forward Punk track sung in Greek (also included in a Punk-oriented compilation tape issued the same year by Underground Tapes).
Following the release of “Friday the 13th”, DAVIDIAN allegedly went through some lineup changes. Exactly who left and joined is unfortunately not known at the moment, except that both Kostas “Strange” and George V. remained in the band. In the summer of 1998, DAVIDIAN once again visited Voices Studio to record a one-track promotional tape, “Never an Angel” (1998), which was primarily issued for labels and radio stations and didn’t come with any artwork. This is quite an interesting track that shows the band from a gloomier side, further enhanced by Gothic-flavored keyboards.
DAVIDIAN’s final release, the “Closer to God” demo CDr, was recorded in September 1999 and released the following year. This release has eluded us so far, but according to the band it allegedly features some Progressive Rock influences. A few years down the road, George and Kostas re-christened the band as STILLBORN VIRTUE and went for a slightly more modern and groov-ish sound, as heard on 2011’s “Foreseen” EP and the same-titled full-length album from 2019.
