Chaostar

CHAOSTAR was formed in 1998 on a project-basis by SEPTIC FLESH guitarist Christos Antoniou, originally in cooperation with the soprano singer Natalie Rassoulis (vocals – CHAOSTAR + session work with SEPTIC FLESH and SWAN CHRISTY). Not as a Metal band per se, but more as an outlet for Antoniou’s creative urges arising in tandem with his increased academic schooling in the Classical Music field. In addition to the project’s main duo, a host of additional musicians has been drafted for contribution over the years, including Christos’ brother and SEPTIC FLESH bandmate Spiros Antoniou (vocals, bass – SEPTIC FLESH, THOU ART LORD, etc.), Sotiris Vayenas (vocals, guitars – SEPTIC FLESH, DANSE MACABRE, etc.) and many, many more. The history of the band can be divided into two eras: the first ranging over the three albums recorded in liaison with N. Rassoulis (1998-2004) and a second with a new lineup including Androniki Skoula (vocals – CHAOSTAR + a number of guest appearances) in the vocalist position (2008-present).

Stylistically, CHAOSTAR spans all over the darker fields of modern music. It remains rooted in monumentally-orchestrated neoclassical Darkwave/Ambient with compositions often revolving around properties and possibilities connected to the human voice. While surely a challenging listen for those of us habitually accustomed to the sounds and workings of Heavy Metal, the ambition and amount of work put into the creation of CHAOSTAR is admirable.
