Highest want/have ratio on Discogs

Post by Khnud »

I'm debating whether to put this in Into Battle or Metal Conquest, but arrived at the conclusion that this is about the bands rather than the collecting of music. So Into Battle it is!

Just for fun - which hard rock or metal item (CD, vinyl, cassette) on Discogs that you've found has the highest want to have ratio? To get this ratio you simply divide the "want" number with the "have" number listed in the statistics section for a Discogs entry. Yes, this is crude, that's why it's just for fun.

For example: Venom - Black Metal on red vinyl: 4 have and 425 want. So the ratio is 106,25. For every person who owns a copy, another hundred people are looking for it. Can you find an item with a higher ratio?

You might find some unexpected results. One of the most expensive vinyls ever, Bathory's Yellow Goat, scores as low as 4,83. Mayhem's Deathcrush on Powercorpse is only somewhat higher: 7,83. This suggests that the ratio is not particularly useful when trying to determine item value. Actually, finding an item with a ratio of over 15 is quite hard, especially for items with more than 10 owners.

Share your finds! High ratios, unexpected results, lesser known items that a surprisingly large amount of people want, etc.

Nice thread BUT I know that some people click on ''have'' an album yet by simply owning an mp3 file!

So the have/want ratio should not been taken into account to determine price when selling an item.

I find it curious that one of the more sought after 90’s records, Megadeth’s “Youthanasia”, is supposed to exist in 1000 copies only, yet 1138 Discogs users currently have it in their collection.

I guess the “limited to 1000” is an urban myth and the true quantity was much higher. Maybe 3000, like W.A.S.P. “Still Not Black Enough”.

It's not unusual for a very limited release to have more owners on Discogs than copies actually pressed.

Which is totally weird as there was no intended yellow/black swirl pressing - the yellow swirl is just a left over from when they switched from yellow vinyl to regular black vinyl in the pressing process. There's always some residue of the earlier colour noticeable on the first pressed copies in the new colour.

Yeah, I wouldn't personally consider it a separate pressing but I guess Discogs does.

I know it's not metal... but 1 to 507, it's really mindblowing (don't worry about the usual scammer trying to sell it 82$ )

Yeah test pressings can be like that considering there were so few of them. There are a few Led Zeppelin ones that have similar ratios.

Belated thanx for the tip! Just added this extension and it makes for some interesting statistics. I just had to do some very random searches, mixing classic want-list toppers with some of my own stuff. Made for a pretty intriguing list, and the why's/if's/but's are all great discussion-fodder..

Flames Of Hell: 1922%
Militia: 1396%
Graf Spee: 1336%
Paradoxx: 1488%
Warzwolf: 1253%
Magnit rainbow sleeve: 1480%
Bathory (yellow goat): 381%
Iron Maiden-Soundhouse Tapes: 219%
Stormchild: 993%
Holocaust-Slay 12": 2760%
Gotham City 7": 1046%
Far East: 1282%
Legend-Fjords: 1263%
Widow/Ritual: 2760%
Courage: 1493%
Mayhem deathcrush: 640%
Autobus 7": 2750%
Avatar-yellow 7": 4817%

...but apparently I won Metal Collecting and you can all suck my b*** because:
V/A-Europe's Best Metal: 10400%

Someone send me a cake. PM for address.

There we go with the test pressings again. Also, I have to ask: Suck your what? Beak? Ball? You only have one? My condolences. ;-)

Anyhoo, is there a simple way to check the ratios without having to click on each individual item? I don't really feel like clicking on thousands of items, one at a time, but it'd be cool to find out which of my items has the highest ratio. I don't have anything close to 10000% though, of that I am certain.
