Euro-Metallovision

Post by Fucking Åmål »

What you think about the winning of Lordi-Hard Rock Hallelujah or the sixth for Norway In 2005 Wig Wam-In My Dreams.I am a fan of both bands and i think these songs, and images were a hard kick at the ears and balls(if they have balls)to the light listeners.I think also it changed a bit the popularity of Metal in the Europe and the way the outsiders see us.

As i refered to the Eurovision contest did you know that Eirikur Hauksson(a.k.a Eric Hawk)singer of the top bands Drysill and Artch represented in 1985 Iceland in Eurovision!!!! (I am very curious to hear and see the song) and also the band Start who had released the Hard Rock album in 1981 ''En Hun Snyst Nu Samt'' had represented also the Iceland in the Eurovision Contest in the early 80's.

I never liked the WIG WAM style of hard rock, but I must say I always liked "Hard Rock Hallelujah" by LORDI. It totally ties in with some of the stadium HR/HM I listened to as a kid, like TWISTED SISTER, 80s SCORPIONS, KISS minus make-up etc. I've been planning to give their albums a proper listen, but things have come inbetween. It's almost the kind of band you want to rave about out of sheer principle, just to give the finger to "obscure-Metal-ONLY!"-snobbs

As for the impact these bands have had on the general public and their view of Heavy Metal, I don't really know if it's a bad or good thing. If 0.01% of todays LORDI-fans buy one SLOUGH FEG album within the next 10 years I guess it can't be all that bad. It's not like Metal ever have been considered anything but a joke by the ignorant majority

Are you serious ?? Lordi is among the biggest cancers in the metal "scene" (if there is one). Hate that band, tottaly.
Wig Wam is quite good, but if you need Hard Rock, the check out the Swedes and buy the Solid Ground LP instead, or even the Trettioåriga Kriget's first two LPs, all great stuff. And November.

Wig Wam are from Sweden right ??

Well , well , well. Last year Lordi made quite an impression ! Good or Bad , no matter really. It came clear that there's a crowd out there who wants to hear something more than fluppy-ethnic-love-tender-horny-dancing(...or whatever they call them) songs(...). The Internet campaign had been useful then and many had bet on Lordi's victory! Easy money guys!

Anyway , this year metallers Kabat represent Czech Republic. Would be good to win the contest too. Check their track in the web or download it here:

I'd like to have your opinions on it.

The old Thrashers from "Rokmapa 2"? Who would have guessed, eh?

Playing now... pretty decent semi-ballad... reminds me of some other song but I don't remember which one. The Lordi influence (conceptually anyways) is a bit obvious if you ask me. They'll probably get my vote just so we might see ROOT on the next year's competition

Just wondering how much metal/rock was in national qualifications this year. The first runner up in the Finnish qualification were Thunderstone whose drummer used to play in Loud Crowd back in the '80s. Here's the song that nearly got to represent finland this year.

This is not strange. You see, seasons change, fashions come and go. and the modern mainstream music has reached the top of stupidity. What more can wake the people from numbness ,if not a metal hymn?
See what happened last year: 40 silly songs and a powerful one, so it easily stands out. Seems it is the Golden Rule of winning!

....Let's not ignore it. If all metalheads in Europe vote Kabat ,they could end up winners too. (And, DaN, be sure that in such case, not only Root but even Darkthrone will stand in queue...).

In a few years, when all countries send in metal/hard rock bands I might actually sit through the entire show.

you will be amazed to know, what is re-presenting Ireland in 2008. I hope they don't need to go through a pre-qualifying for the Eurovision final like Iceland had to do last year and where the song of the Artch-vocalist didn't come to the final the day later. A collegue from Ireland showed it to me and he just kept on laughing and laughing. This is taking the Eurovision 2008 to the extreme. Just try to understand the lyrics. Awesome.
