So, my month in NZ wasn't a complete waste of time since I did manage to find a copy of this HM comp top rarity. It was pretty beat up, but I've managed to clean the audio rather well. All that needs to be said is said here.

I've also added the STORMBRINGER live track from the Shazam! Battle Of The Bands-comp as a bonus.

Thanks Dan. I'm sure this is a upgrade of sound quality to what i've here.

Don't be too sure about that
It really is a pure "bootleg" recording. Still I must say both HARLOT and ASTAROTH are growing on me. I'd much rather have seen proper releases with them than the dire Tyrant and RB.

Blimey, you're not kidding, did they record this on a wax cylinder?
Still a very interesting & worthwhile document of the NZ scene at that time, thanks for the chance to hear it.

I wished someone would have mastered the original recordings professionally before they pressed the vinyls. When I got mine it was just a total disappointment. It's more of a "Lowzone Metal"
What did you pay for yours? Are prices still crappy over there?

Did you just question the Rose Bayonet LP???? :o
Their studio side is superb...

Agreed, but I cannot for the life of me understand why they chose to degrade the godly a-side with the inexplicably weird b-side. An EP would have been more than enough.

This got me curious about Rose Bayonet, so I went to youtube and I actually liked both sides

Me I find the 2 "unreleased" acts the most interresting here, i.e. HARLOT and ASTAROTH. Anyone got demos?

thanks DaN for posting this - so now I can listen to this compilation second time in my life...

first time - was in some record shop in outer Wellington about nearly 20 years ago while travelling NZ as a backpacker.
well Wellington is the home of Jayrem Rec, so I tried to find some of those and other raaare NZ metal records there and elsewhere...
And ...
YES, I found them: Rose Bayonet, Godzone comp, Stormbringer Life MLP, Tokyo 12"...
BUT...
I could't buy them!!! - they were private stock of the shop owner collecting everything independently released vinyl in NZ...
so we just listened to the records and had a nice talk together... remember, this was before you could listen to everything via the web, most of my big vinyl collection I bought without listening first (which means I bought a lot of "sh#t" as well, just because it was labeled as 'power metal' by someone  )
OK, I never saw those records again anywhere in NZ or worldwide, so I am still missing them in black wax, shit happens
The only relevant NZ records I found were like Fat Sally, Nightshade, Lionheart and the 3 points of metal comp, only second choice but better than nothin
BUT - anyway - it was a great vacation with travelling nearly everywhere through this great country and met so many nice fellow travellers...
cheers
