Yeah, HIEROPHANT have quite controversial image, but the dude can scream in that magical arcane vein and the chick guitar player can shred quite good.

This discussion is so low....I do not want to see pictures of some people posting here...It is the music that matters...not the image or looks...HIEROPHANT and TRACER are great young bands and I do not care how they look like. If you look at some 80ies cult band photos it is not better...BTW: The Sampler statement was not from me, it was from Manuel from Iron Kodex, I just quoted.

obviously you have some expectations of what is inappropriate for the bands sound. they look wrong. what should they look like then? but that's not the only thing, do they also think wrong? that's the kind of stuff the whole trueness/poser obsession breeds. I'd rather we judge people by their actions and bands by their art, than by suspicions of thoughtcrime and worrying about their clothes, private lives, socioeconomic status and fuck knows what else people worry about etc.MEXDefenderOfSteel wrote:But seriously, i have always liked bands that match what they think, with their sound and image, at least for me has more credibilty
if ideas, sound and appearance all correspond in some inconspicuous way, what is gained? all that means to me is that we don't have a reason for irritation right now. at this moment in history, for this subculture, that pairing does well, it fits right in, no questions asked. this does not have to be a bad thing at all. individuality is often made too much of a goal in itself in modern western societies. but maybe bands and fans are highly self-conscious about liking the right stuff, dressing right and playing the right music? maybe they feel compelled to do so, maybe they want to belong very badly? is that 'true', or maybe better, is that the kind of scene people want? you might just never find out, because everybody is doing their best to perform better than everyone else.
same with the people you're worried about because they don't fit 100% into one of the trueness molds. somehow they play the right music, but wear the wrong clothes in this instance. they might be committed and serious about their art, but somehow upset the molds we're comfortable with. and you might just never find out what they're in it for if the untrue stigma is laid on someone by some default. better that they start conforming now so we can start liking them? I don't like the thought of it, in no scene and no area of life actually. sure it can be fun to laugh at people who are immersed in other trends than ourselves. it always irritates me though if that becomes a reason to personally attack people. I'd like to have better reasons for that.
that being said the little I heard of Hierophant has not made me want to check them out more. and the band pictures were funny to me.

my point was not that you were attacking someone personally, at least not literally. you were raising questions about the bands credibility based on a mismatch between music and appearance. personal attack or not, the poser question is pretty powerful judging by how it seems to be so popular to dismiss all and everything as untrue/posing. I was taking your post to stand for this broader mindset that I don't like, one that quickly ends up in judging people according to standards that I think are repressive and unjust. imo they also don't help interesting and individual music along. I think being aware of these mechanisms could make a scene better. that was all. I wasn't trying to twist your words.
Jesus Christ...
I really can't believe all this... there's a bunch of 16year olds forming a fucking awesome metal band with some of the best songs I've heard from a newcomer band in a long time and instead of giving them a chance the internet poser-exposure squad takes the piss out of them because their hair isn't long enough and because they wear the wrong shirts (or they don't know Savage Grace...). What the hell did you expect a teenaged newcomer band to look like? Like a bunch of fat greasy bikers with beards and tattoos? Would that make them truer in your twisted view? Is there a certain age or level of knowledge one must have reached to be allowed to form a band?
The fact alone that they formed a band just for the fun of it and crank out some great tunes makes them more metal than 90% of all these trve internet bigmouths, wanking over their 1500 $ records and "knowing" every obscure 80s band, just because they've got a window with Metal Archives open in the background at any given moment while playing World of Warcraft or posting bullshit on some board. I'm so fucking fed up with spotty 18 y/o nerds playing the internet metal hero with their mp3 hoardes and Google-skills.

What i heard from the youtube link stormspell posted wasn't bad, but it sure as hell wasn't anything ''fucking awesome'' either. My opinion anyway.Korgüll wrote:Tell me who, I'd like to hear themGoatstorm wrote:there's a bunch of 16year olds forming a fucking awesome metal band with some of the best songs I've heard from a newcomer band in a long time
Regardless, with THAT image, even if their music was great, i certainly wouldn't want to go to see them live.
