The Erlking wrote:I'm searching for Death Metal in vein of Possessed - Seven Churches. It can be a little more "death metal" though.. as I know possessed is considered thrash metal by some. Haunting keyboard intros etc. are very welcome but I'm NOT looking stuff like "The Key". I wan't something less calculated but more demonic and atmospheric.

If there is DM similar to what I described, could anyone drop some names.
Insanity demo EP/reh. are influenced by Possessed a lot but more raw.

Well, Sadus is pure thrash to me. But in early nineties death metal was hip in underground so even raw thrash got death -tag easily in order to get respect in death metal circles.

Mortem? http://www.myspace.com/thetruemortem
Really great stuff!!!!
Mortem truly is one of the few active death metal i really appreciate. And suits for Possessed fans. Like Necrovore!

I love that classic, thrashy death metal from the late 80s / early 90s, for example stuff like:

Massacre - From Beyond
Death - Spiritual Healing
Master - On the Seventh Day God Created ... Master
Aggressor - Neverending Destiny
Magnus - I Was Watching My Death

even first 5 Cannibal Corpse albums, or early Deicide (+ my favorite Serpents of the Light) ...

I don't listen to a lot of death metal. I don't know why, but I find myself getting bored with most death metal bands these days. There are a few that will always remain favorites to me, though.

Cancer - Death Shall Rise
Obituary - Cause Of Death
Massacre - From Beyond
Bolt Thrower - War Master
Carcass - Heartwork
Suffocation - Effigy Of The Forgotten
Mortification - Scrolls Of The Megilloth
Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
Death - Spiritual Healing
Morgoth - The Eternal Fall / Resurrection Absurd
Crimson Thorn - Purification

Ok i looked through the 4 pages and i can't believe that no one has mentioned DISINCARNATE - DREAMS OF THE CARRION KIND!!! Quite possibly the best dm album of the 90's. Some of James Murphy's finest playing is on there. I implore all you dm fans to hunt down DotCK. You won't be disappointed.

And another album that's worthy of note is Art Bleeds by the Italian masters of dm, Gory Blister. Very similar in vein to latter era Death.

Reviving this thread because I need more death metal magic in my live. School me!

My goal is to reach a state of approximately 50-50% AOR-DEATH METAL. (No kidding :D )

I tend to prefer USDM over Swedish contemporaries. With the regular Dutch/Czech/Polish boosts.
And I prefer, most probably, 2nd Nocturnus + 7" over their 1st.

Buddy Helm had great recommendations.

Recent discoveries: Broken Hope, Oppressor (really love the music, have a thing with the vocals though).

Needless to say that, thus far, this is my favorite topic. 8) Either Brutal, either Awesome, either Fucking I need it from the morning till the night...
