Well, I think those cubes are pretty pricey (but solid), therefor I'm going to make them myself by using 'furniture wood'. Those are MDF plates (same as the cubes) with a wood structure, I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about; it's the stuff most of those built-it-yourself furniture packages are made off. It should look +/- the same as the cubes, but not with rounded edges. My dad has the material to do that, so shouldn't be a problem, a day's work I guess. Will be alot cheaper than those cubes and I can choose the size etc.

And those cubes are only delivered inside the UK, so that rules out buying.

Bought some wood yesterday and started with it today. Finished 4 cubes, they measure 40 x 40 cm, in oak. Looks just the way I wanted it, very pleased with it. The material costed me 16 euros per cube, so that's a lot cheaper than the 20 Pounds of the cubes on Ebay. Will take a picture tomorrow.

Cool. I'm quite eager to see your work. I will rather contact local woodworker. My hands were not made for design, hehe. God knows if he could made 'em that slick as iCubes are.

Sorry 'bout the shitty quality, but it gives you an idea. The measurements are 40 x 40 because the panels I used had those measurements, so the records stand in a bit deeper and the cube is a bit higher than the records itself. Had it sawed in the shop and only had to put 'em together, but it took me and my dad +/- 3 hours for 4 cubes. Now I'm gonna put my records in there, should be space for about 80 records in one cube.

Ikea Billy shelf (50 Euro) with 6 CD-inserts (20 Euro each). Costly but up to 800 CDs fit into these shelves and Billy doesn't hurt anything.

LPs are still in my banana-boxes as I don't find any better boxes that a more stable though...

You have done quite good job. They look very neat. Even colour of wood fits in the room. Killer! Seem that round edges add to the price. Could you buy pieces with already round edges in your local wood shop?

Yeah there are panels with rounded sides, but those are a lot more expensive. For example, one panel of 250 cm costs 11,89 euro, while the similar panel with rounded edges costs 16,99 euro. I needed 3 of those panels (and 1 smaller for the back, cause there's an opening on the top of the backside), so that makes quite a difference. But these rounded panels are rounded as a whole, so if you cut them in the size you want, you again have two right edged sides and you'll have to get those round again once the cube is made. That's a lot of fuss and it will never look like the cubes from ebay, cause that's machine-made and fit together in such a way you have rounded edges. Now I had to put the top panel on the two side panels to make sure it can carry the weight (in the long term I want 4 cubes on each other), so that would mean I have to polish the edged till they are round, but that is meant to go wrong.
Long story to say this is the easiest way if you do it yourself. Maybe a wood worker can do it otherwise, but it'll probably cost you more. There is a rather fair choice of wood color/paterns in these panels however, so you can find something that fits your taste/interior.

All my vinyls are stored in IKEA crates. The only problem is that they take too much space in my small appartment. My CD's are in some IKEA billy-idol panels. I guess one day I end up listening ABBA all day in my Volvo...

Anyway, I have to confess that - chaotic as I am - I don't have plastic sleeves to protect all my records. Honestly, I don't really care either if they damage a bit... I mean, I still see them for usage, not for collecting them like stamps. But still, maybe I should pay some more care to them

This is a home-made shelf by my father and me - the capacity is around 500, give or take few.
