Nazareth's Expect No Mercy was the first heavy album I heard when I was little. For sentimental reasons I'm picking that one.

Sure there were a few broderline NWOBHM releases in '78 but the good stuff didn't come out until the next year. I mean, Urchin was OK but this is supposed to be the best of '78, not the mediocre of '78.

Urchin may have come from a different context than Alkana or whatever but all the same - metal it ain't!

This early in music history there's simply no competition - "Stained Class".

I thought Poisonoise was form '78 but I see Metal Archives as '79 as a release date

Stained class followed by Rush's Hemispheres for me.
I would of been 8yrs old then, I remember around that time I had three lp's that I listened to all the time(I grew up in a household that always had some sort of music playing Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols, Clash, Beatles , Irish music)
1) Kiss Alive. My father gave it to me because I had a Kiss poster on my wall but had never heard them!
2) Black Sabbath Masters of Reality. My uncle was moving and he had stored a bunch of stuff at our house, I remember liking the cover so I "borrowed" it
3) Judas Priest Best Of. I don't remember where I go this but I do remember driving my family crazy by constantly playing it.
