I really like the ROUGH CUTT track on 'the bridge album'; it and the Tempest Ride are easily the best two on it. there's some weird pop and reggae bands on that one too- nwobhm rastafied

thank you for posting these files, very neat stuff! On first listen, I really like the STRAIGHT SIX and DEUCE material, and the Valkyrie also stood out right away.

It's the same band that did the EP.

Did the song 'heavy rain' by Straight Six have some 'glitches' in the file for anyone else when they downloaded the Southern Comfort tracks? Great song, but there's several electronic glitches in the middle. I'll try downloadingl it again, as i'd love to have a better copy of it

Yes, it has some glitches in it. Unfortunately that's they way my copy is too, and I don't have the vinyl.

I'm pretty sure the DEUCE featured on the Southern Comfort tracks also released a single; if memory serves it's described as being lighter/not as good as the compilation tracks (source: malc's encyclopedia)

I believe this is the Deuce that also released the "Make it Bleed" demo and "Backs To The Wall/Jealousy" single. I'm still not sure though. Does anybody know from what year those "Southern Comfort" LP's are?

I did some internet-research and I'm quite sure that this deuce is the same one that released Radar Love/Christine single. I found a website with info about them and it said their label was Madhouse (you probably remember the track Madhouse parts 1 & 2 from local comps). Southern Comfort is (if i recall correctly) from '83 and I think that the other Deuce (with backs to the wall) came later. And that Deuce is also from Nottinghamshire which is in east midlands and the point of southern comfort comps were to show bands from the south. Am i right? If someone knows better please tell me if I'm totally wrong.

Edit. Metal-archives say Radar Love is a single released by Deuce (us) which later became Tension but I find that hard to believe since the single sounds totally different from them.

Metal Archives is wrong. Someone wanting more points must've added it. It even says OPM Records released the single.

You're probably right about this not being the Nottingham Deuce, but musically, the comp. tracks do show some similarity with the BTTW single. It might even be this is the third Deuce, but nightsblood did say that malc's book claimed they later released a lightweight single and with the single being from 1986 and called Radar Love/Christine, it does point in the that direction..

I need to look into this some more.

I THINK Southern Comfort is from 82 or 83, and SC III is from 85, but I can't guarantee it

Well, it sure can't be the American Deuce. From what I've heard the third band originates from Kent. Although this band - not to be mistaken for the U.S. based DEUCE (pre-TENSION) or their U.K. namesakes - moves under the banner of NWOBHM, this single should definitely not be considered as such, besides, this item only but got released when the NWOBHM was already on its return.... As its title suggests, the A-side concerns a remake of the original GOLDEN EARRING hit-single, that has been caked with some meaty guitars to beef it up to where it meets HardRock, be it in a controlled, modest manner anyways. In some degree, this is due to the vocalage of Steve Barns operating in a neutral fashion without the rough edges. Although the song itself does not make it the best pick of the bunch cover-wise, this interpretation comes along pretty well, with some nice guitar hooks, and slightly accelerated modes halfway down. Flipside tune, the up-tempo “Christine” shows a completely different approach that pretty much clicks with the more smoothened up ENERGY material. It is here that the band flirts with the American (radio) Rock sound, sporting a cheerful vibe and Poppy chant. It is the second half of this song, actually its bridge and solo-section, that their true origin (U.K) clearly comes shining through. Overall, the “Radar Love” single is a lightweight HardRock affair, but it does have a certain charm to it, as well as it does cruise all right in both the musical and structural department. This DEUCE single will make a welcome addition to those that cling to the mild-format, American geared 2nd generation U.K. HardRock bands...

Probably just sixteen year old lads from the USA. They add so much junk to the obscure bands just to get to that Veteran status. (I'm not really familiar with the US Deuce, but their '87 demo on the archives looks suspicious too).

If only Malc was here to help us out with this Deuce love triangle.
