I still manage to find great bargains outside internet.

I remember having bought ebay stuff around 2003 - 2005 for next to nothing, including a lot of NWOBHM 7"s which I've used for trading to get big things.

I believe we're going back to normal prices in (let's say) 15 years when the hype is wearing off. It seems everybody is collecting like an idiot right now. Heathens Rage for $5,- on for instance ebay in the year 2026 will be reality again.

Times like this, I wonder if maybe I should forget about records and collect beanie babies instead

The seller was Rob Tidd. I think he deserves the money. :P

Nothing against Rob; we've talked via email about this single quite a bit this week and he's been really nice and helpful. I'm glad it did well for him.
But as a collector trying to get a copy of this single, it sucks to see the price go through the roof like that. I know it's not the only time it's sold in this range, but this is about $250 more than rattlehead's copy sold for. Jim's a great guy too, but let's face it, most of his records sold for well over the 'normal' price. It's also about $600 more than another copy sold for 2-3 years ago; all 3 copies being in comparable condition TMK.
I bid about 100 GBP MORE than I initially planned to on this copy and I didn't even finish in the same time zone as the top bidders. It's great for the seller, but it stinks for me.

OK, I'm done venting about it :)

Yeah... but I wanted THAT one!
The silver lining in losing is that I don't have to fork out a lot of $$$. which is always nice for poor, cheap bastards like me :)

See, I can't find anything outside of the internet, but considering how little free time I have to hunt for internet bargains I sure find a lot of them so I am shocked to hear people say they aren't there. I think part of the problem is that people are looking for bargains on very popular albums (Legend, Street Child, Militia, etc.) The real bargains are on the unknowns like Stormwindow (who?) or the stuff glockose just posted. Just last night I won an auction for the Rock 106 Homegrown LP which has the first (only) recordings of Lust w/ Ron Keel for only $10. Last year, glockose sold it for $50 but I guess no one is looking for it now!

A lot of people also check John's auctions which gives his items higher visibility, and thus more bidders. I've seen John get $400+ for a record within 1-2 days of other copies selling for < $50.
Good point that the bargains are more likely to be on more obscure items. Fewer people know them, so fewer people want them, so the price stays relatively low.

A auction for "ARC - War of the Ring" listed in the Indie/Britpop genre was recently removed with 0 bids, only listed for a few hours before auction abruptly ended.

I wonder how much the seller was offered to take it down. I bet waaay below market value. I curse myself for not contacting the seller before whoever bought the record did. My number one want, right there.

It's getting to the point that, if you find a top want, you almost have to contact them immediately to ensure that the auction won't end early. Pain in the butt.
