I would include any of the Funeral Bitch/Master demos. Pretty fuckin' brutal for their time. And I think without a doubt that Repulsion is the most brutal of '89. Symphonies Of Sickness is my favorite Carcass album but it has nothing against Horrified. '86 is a tough year. I don't know if I would vote for Strappado or Hate, Fear and Power (pretty brutal album in my opinion).

1980 - Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden (not all that brutal, but Di'Anno was pretty gruff by '80 standards and songs like Transylvania had an influence on early thrash)
1981 - Venom - Welcome to Hell
1982 - Venom - Black Metal
1983 - Slayer - Show No Mercy (or Death's Death By Metal including demos)
1984 - Sodom - In the Sign of Evil (or Death's Reign of Terror)
1985 - Sepultura - Bestial Devastation
1986 - Sepultura - Morbid Visions (or Napalm Death's Scum demo)
1987 - Napalm Death - Scum (it's grindcore of course, but still brutal as hell)
1988 - Carcass - The Reek of Putrefaction
1989 - Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness (or Winter's S/T demo on the opposite spectrum of death metal)

I must add for 1987 Macabre's Grim Reality. Just listen to the first track. Maybe note quite metal but brutal as fuck.

I would probably fit Discharge "HNSNSN" into '82. It's not metal, but I cannot think of a more brutal release for that year, and it's influence is found on a lot of the metal to come.

Hmm, I was first thinking "Spectrum Of Death" for '88, but I think Carcass seals the deal for that year.

This defiantly isn’t my area of expertise...

1982 - It may not be metal in any way but Shitlickers 7" from 1982 is brutal by todays standards.
1984 - Bathory and Death.
1985 - Mutilator - Grave Desecration demo
1986 - Sarcófago maybe. Repulsion.
1987 - Tough one. The Brazilian "league" perhaps.
1988 - Carcass or maybe Imperator's "Eternal Might" demo. It's plain sick.

Yes, a quite brutal release. So was UNITED MUTATIONS' Demo of the same year which i mentioned earlier. Some songs almost border on a proto-grind level of ferociousness and brutality.

MORBID ANGEL was to release "Abominations of Desolation" in 1986ce which would have been very brutal and more extreme than most other LPs mentioned here.

1983 - Misfits "Earth AD" is pretty savage. Even today.

Some other pretenders to the throne:
1986 - Xecutioner 2 song demo
1986 - Necrophagia "Ready for death" LP
1987 - Incubus (Florida) demo ; sick and demented!

Agreed, especially that sick guitarsound. Great record by a mighty band.
