Urrgh... For me that song and its album was the beginning of the end for ManOwaR :(
Off topic slightly a bit about that Manowar song, I am sure I read somewhere that Atlantic wanted them to go Grunge or something like that so Manowar wrote in response to that a 28 minute opener.

Did anyone else hear this or did I just have a vision one night?

Black Death self titled song
Morbid Angel's Invocation Of The Continual One (I know is not so "cult" but is an amazing track)
Graf Spee - Patala Loca (unique atmosphere)
Those are the ones that come to mind right now.
If I can come up with a few I might start the oposite thread about best songs under 2 minutes.

For me it's got to be "Voyage of the Homeless Sapien".

I forgot to mention Saint Vitus' The Psycopath. I love that song, it sounds like walking on the streets of Arkham in autumn, just when the sun is starting to come up.

I'm not familiar w/ this story, but if it's true I guess it does vindicate the song to a certain degree.

My personal beef with this song stems from when they played in Sweden on the tour in question, and decided to scrap a bunch of old classics from the setlist in favour of "Achilles" only the day before the gig. Why? Because some loudmouthed "fan" challanged them to do so on Swedish TV the night before. It was still a great gig (my first w/ ManOwaR), but it could have been so much better without this 20+ min sleeping pill

ION BRITTON wrote:It's the last truly great ManOwaR album imo. It's flawed, but at least it left us some classics. As for the track in question, if you exclude the solo parts, for me the rest it's up there with the best moments of 80's ManOwaR.
I can agree with that, but as it stands it's almost unlistenable.

Off the top of my head, here are some that haven't been mentioned yet.
HELLOWEEN - Halloween
JAG PANZER - The Crucifix
SCORPIONS - Fly to the Rainbow

great idea for a thread ION BRITTON :D

Manilla Road - Born Upon the Soul (and about 10 other MR tracks but I'll keep it to a single song by every band I post)
Fates Warning - The Apparition
Sieges Even - Straggler from Atlantis (it IS epic, and it IS technothrash haha!)
Candlemass - A Sorcerer's Pledge
In The Woods... - In the Woods...
Rush - Xanadu
King Crimson - Starless
Helloween - Ride the Sky
Skepticism - Forge
My Dying Bride - Symphonaire Infernus et Spera Empyrium
Morbid Angel - Blessed are the Sick/Leading the Rats
Mercyful Fate - Satan's Fall
Judas Priest - Dreamer/Deceiver (I count it as one track, and the opening of Sad Wings Of Destiny to boot.)
Warning - Footprints

I would also add Sabbat's (Uk) Advent of Insanity/Do Dark Horses Dream of Nightmares?
I'm not the biggest fan of Sabbat, but that song(s) are just amazing.

RUNNING WILD - Treasure Island 11:14
RUNNING WILD - Genesis 15:18
RUNNING WILD - The Battle of Waterloo 07:46
BRIDE - Heroes 07:10
IRON CROSS (US,Fl) - S&M Medley 07:35 (You're in for the kill, you'll do my will)

RUSH's epics probably deserve their own separate thread, but Xanadu is indeed a great representative!
