Bands/albums similar to ADRAMELCH's "Irae Melanox"?
Bands/albums similar to ADRAMELCH's "Irae Melanox"?
Now, this might've been covered earlier but since I'm new here I'll blame it on ignorance:
ADRAMELCH's "Irae Melanox" is a very special album in my opinion. Except for Arch-era FATES WARNING (which might well have been an influence on the Italians) I've still to come across anything remotely similar to it in terms of atmosphere and songwriting. At least not within the 80s heavy metal field. So, if anyone can point out albums in a similar vein, that would be very helpful.

Check out “en busca del valle de gehenna” by Mexican band Gehenna!

I had the same question myself. The closest thing I found was Gehenna from Mexico (and great band too!).

Wow, that's interesting because I was thinking of mentioning the GEHENNA-album along with FATES WARNING. Very unique album that deserves more credit. Apparently "En Busca..." was re-relased some time ago, so maybe things will pick up a little...
Thanks for the replies!

There's a new band from Chicago called Ancient Seance that remind me of "Irae Melanox" a little bit.

I forgot another obvious pick: Dark Quarterer (the first two albums).

I think you can find similarities/influences in many Italian bands.
Dark Quarterer, Wyxmer (check mystical wyvern from feudal throne LP). I even hear adramelch in gunfire!
Also, I’ve always thought that bands like Longings Past resemble Alramelch much.
The fact is that no band ever played like adramelch (apart from Fates Warning).
But all ethereal-progressive-epic-heavy metal remind me of Adramelch more or less.
For example, I was lately listening to MASACRE sin Piedad. Their song El Hechicero reminded me of Dark Quarterer, which remind me of Adramelch!

I'm surprised to hear GEHENNA compared to the godly ADRAMELCH, since the GEHENNA lp plain sucks. Owned it and got rid of it damned quick.
Re: Bands/albums similar to ADRAMELCH's "Irae Melanox"?
I've heard many people write it off based on different things. The pop-iness - especially in the first song, the weird production, weak vocals etc. To each their own of course and I'm sure your opinion is grounded, but I do think there is more to GEHENNA than meets the eye/ear on the first couple of listens. Also, if your not completely appalled by now, please check out their two tracks on the "Escuadrón Metálico" compilation! Shows a different, rawer side of the band ("El Pigmeo del Cementerio" is a pretty cool song title, if nothing else).doomedplanet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 8:03 pm I'm surprised to hear GEHENNA compared to the godly ADRAMELCH, since the GEHENNA lp plain sucks. As vasilis mentioned above, there really is no other (or at least very few) bands in 80s ug heavy metal that play/compose like ADRAMELCH. It's probably more suitable to compare their contrapuntal and multi-sectional songwriting style to 70s progressive rock.

Really nice! It surely has Adramelch vibes...!DMR wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 1:47 am There's a new band from Chicago called Ancient Seance that remind me of "Irae Melanox" a little bit.

Very much enjoyed the Ancient Seance-tracks as well. Good pick!
