Metal on vinyl 1995 to early 2000's

Post by msp »

This period seemed to be a bit of a down time for traditional metal vinyl. Maybe this is due to the UK not being so interested in traditional metal at this time and the fact I was out mostly of the loop from 95 to early 99. Black metal was more in vogue and there seemed to be little publicity about vinyl releases. Looking back with there appears to be a lot of albums released in picture disc format by Nuclear Blast etc. and there were still albums iand 7" in the BM and grind scenes.

I'm thinking there may be some gems in this period we are not aware of so this is could be a place for people for people to highlight some worthy items?

I love "Do What Thou Wilt" of Death SS. I'm glad that this was my first contact to the band...otherwise I doubt that I would have spent much time discovering this album, as it is so different to their previous releases....

Sacred Steel's first is a great album from those years. 1997, and on Metal Blade.

Although not released on vinyl(To my knowledge)Blasdead - Another Dimension is my favorite Japanese metal album and it is from 96.

The Drizzit 7" was a pretty cool surprise in that time. And Witchtrap's debut LP too ... :!:
Also the Metal Inquisitor 7" ...

Twisted Tower Dire's first two albums were released on vinyl as well. I guess I am the only one who dislikes the bonus stuff on the vinyl version....
Also Mutiny had some nice tracks on their "Muted" album....
Millennium/ The Crisis was a cool single, but the music was recorded already before.....
Mayhemic Truth vinyls were godly, though they were Black Metal....

I remember I did too. Must revisit the whole first album, back when it was released I thought it was pretty average overall.

I quite like GRIP INC's Power of inner strength.
The three albums that JAG PANZER put out that period are pretty good too (their last really good ones IMO).
Dan Rock released, through his project called DARKSTAR, Marching into oblivion as a pic LP, an album that I personally like very much.

Nice pictures Chatzial. This is the kind of stuff I was hoping to see. I guess most of us are aware and own releases on OPM and Doomed Planet etc by now so good to see some other stuff. Good shouts for Sacred Steel. Ion - agree on Jag Panzer. Mechanized Warefare is particulary good in my opinion

I was completely unaware of Pegazus putting out any vinyl - I have a soft spot for their cheesy goodness!

Yep! This one was another surprise released in a year when classic Metal was practically dead! But wasn't it released before 1995?

It was in 1995. As far as Drizzit concerns I wasn't so thrilled. I think i gave it away almost immediately. The Metal Inquisitor 7" is a different story, though. One of the highlights of the 90s. I still regret i didn't get it back then. :(

I would also add Puls's 7" from 2003...to me probably the best Czech band. Better get the whole album on CD, essential stuff!
