Big Poll! British Steel top-10 UK albums!!!

Post by STASCO »

Hello everyone! I checked the forum for a while, and i didnt see a big complete poll about best British albums of all time. I have already started one with my friends and some others, over 40 people have already vote. I am curious to see opinions of many corroseum members!! Here is how the poll works:

I am listing over 100 albums. You choose your top-10. The poll is based on 80's british heavy metal, not only NWOBHM. The ''big'' bands like Saxon,Maiden,Def Leppard are not included, i would like to see the top-10 of the less well-known and obscure bands from the big island. Also we are talking mainly for traditional metal (not thrash, hard rock etc) and mostly for records, not 7'' for example. If there is an album that i havent add you can add it in your top list, and there is no need for particular order 1 to 10.

100+ BRITANNIA

There are only 55 albums in that list. Apart from that, who's gonna count the votes in the end?

I don't understand why you are asking for people to vote on a "complete poll about best British albums of all time", then limiting it to a vague time-frame and an apparently arbritary list of albums, (that also includes a few EPs for some reason).
I don't get it at all.
For starters, the list is a strange selection, (you include Wild Pussy but not Legend?!), you've excluded the big names, but there are still many very well known bands.
Diamond Head may not exactly be a household name, but anyone who listens to Metal is surely very well aquainted with them.
What's the object of the poll?
Obviously Oral's "Sex" would have topped the list had it been included, rendering your results null & void.

Define "traditional".

"A Sultan's Ransom" and "To The Devil A Daughter" don't fit that sub-genre in my opinion.

DARK HEART-Shadows Of The Night and INCUBUS-To The Devil A Daughter seems to me similar style.Anyway the first one still misses. And for me is maybe the best band together with SPARTAN WARRIOR from the UK.Ah and we missed also mighty DEEP SWITCH.

Some answers to members:
1- The list cannot fit EVERYTHING because i guess it would become too boring to read :) Seriously,I tried to add almost every NWOBHM record (I mean vinyls,Lp's or Eps) that is worth of.Ofcourse some are missing nobody is perfect.
2- I havent add the big names as i said (Motorhead,Maiden,Saxon etc). Diamond Head, Holocaust and some others, are well known bands but NOT Def Leppard or Priest. When Diamond Head or Grim Reaper are currently playing live to 200 people max cannot be compared to Maiden right? Neither can compare the sales of their albums.
3- I have also tried to add some great underground records like Slander/Shocksplit or Cobra which are not from the NWOBHM era. Some people call it post-NWOBHM, i just say its classic 80's heavy metal sound.
4- Cloven Hoof's Sultan's Ransom is traditional HM. I dont think we can specify it as power/speed/thrash Metal or some other subgenre right?
My opinion...
5- I said in the beginning that i would like to stick to 80's British heavy metal. I think i am close enough to this definition with this list.
(Legend,Oral is in the list, it was in the missing part )

I am very happy to see opinions from other gyus. All the talking is for fun and i really want to think what people say about good Lp's & Eps from a Legendary country and the heroic 80's era!!!
