I love that everyone who listed a Satan song so far chose a different one. :p

Thanks Fire Down Under.

To all: Did you know that Lars "art paintings buyer" Ulrich did one NWOBHM compilation on 2 CDs ? In case... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wave_o ... _Revisited

Cool to see SAXON's 747 (Strangers In The Night) mentionned several times. This song is MAGIC. Best opening riff of all time haha.

I didn't thought of CHATEAUX, but I could put "Spirit of The Chateaux" instead of my CLOVEN HOOF track. :)

Off the top of my head, without over-thinking things too much, here's my contribution.
I'm not 100% sure about the order of the songs, or even if they would all fit on a single disc as i picked a couple of very lengthy songs.

01. JAGUAR - Axe Crazy
02. FIST - Brain Damage
03. BLEAK HOUSE - Rainbow Warrior
04. IRON MAIDEN - Twilight Zone
05. LEGEND - Hiroshima
06. DEMON PACT - Eaten Alive
07. JAMESON RAID - Seven Days Of Splendour
08. SAXON - Dallas 1pm
09. WEAPON - Set The Stage Alight
10. SLEDGEHAMMER - Fantasia
11. SALEM - The Trilogy Of The Keeper Of The Keys
12. MORE - Depression
13. CYNIC - Suicide
14. APOCALYPSE - Stormchild
15. CLOVEN HOOF - Return Of The Passover
I cannot, I shall not, I will not obey.

Good call on 'into the nightmare'; I might need to slip 'don't beak the circle' onto my list, though I'm not sure what I'd cut

I purposefully left off Maiden, Leppard, and Venom, figuring newcomers would likely already know those bands anyway

I did that too. Although I did include a couple of tracks from those bands at first but I kept on thinking of more awesome songs and it was just convenient to leave them off. :p

I'm surprised nobody included a Black Sabbath or Rainbow(who began at about the same time as Motörhead) track yet. They were among the precursors for the NWOBHM along with Judas Priest and Motörhead and released albums in that period too!

Black Axe: For me RAINBOW is THE representative of "70's Heavy Metal", and thus they can't be included is the NWOBHM because they were the fathers of Heavy Metal, and they played and rose before the Punk wave (and NWOBHM bands did take inspiration of the Punk wave and leave the approach of bands like RAINBOW with their folk rock and prog rock elements).

hhhmmm!!! for me (not in particular order):

1) Trident - destiny
2) Damascus - open your eyes
3) AIIZ - no fun after midnight
4) Jaguar - back street woman
5) Jameson Raid - seven days of splendour
6) Trespass - Jeaulosy
7) Tytan - blind men and fools
8 ) Tank - turn your head around
9) Triarchy - Metal messiah
10) Marquis de Sade - black angel
11) Virtue - we stand to fight
12) Bashful Alley - running blind
13) Seventh Son - immortal hours
14) Dagster - bite the bullet
15) witchfynde - give 'em hell
16) witchfinder general - free country
17) Saxon - 747
18 ) Iron Maiden - prowler
19) Holocaust - HM Mania
20) Buffalo - mean machine
21) Elixir - treachery
22) Genghis Khan - if heaven is hell
23) Legend - frontline
24) Savage - let it loose
25) Shock treatment - the mugger

but I love this period and is very difficult to choose only 20/25 songs..., so, of course, I forgot some others great songs... I can't live without my USB key with over 200 NWOBHM songs for my car

Battle At Helm's Deep Records ( ) wants only 15 songs but thanks to your great tastes they will do a bonus 12"LP with the extra songs you provide. 8)

The same goes for Priest and Motörhead who recorded their first albums in '74 & '75 respectively. Besides Motörhead are more rock and roll than metal.

Yes but Rainbow never became harder and faster during late 70's, did they ?

Priest changed their style, Motörhead too.
