Thanks for the link Aiden, that was a fine piece of writing & a great little primer for the uninitiated.
I particularly enjoyed his description of Tim Baker's vocals "sounding like some sort of lunatic half-man half-hawk that’s dealing out warning shots from a burning pulpit".
Barking mad, but oddly accurate.

Tim said it best himself. "I just yell at people."

Thanks for posting the Last Rites article - good read.

Agreed on the sound of the LP - I am not happy with that. The guitars should be loud and clear, not muddled up, like they are there. I am very happy with everything else though. Good to great songs, arrangements are great, the artwork is to die for and Tim's singing is as good as anything he has ever done before.

Is the sound on the CD release noticeably better? If so, I will have to buy it
I know I ain't doing much,

mordred wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 8:16 am Is it just me, or does the album sound quite bad on vinyl? It’s very muddy and lacks clarity and punch. I suspect Metal Blade just put the CD master on vinyl. Certainly no “mastered FOR VINYL by Patrick Engel at Temple of Disharmony” declaration on this release. I redeemed my download code and indeed, the bloody MP3’s sound better!

I practically gave up buying new recordings on vinyl 10+ years ago because they usually sounded inferior to the CD’s, but I thought the industry had long since realized records aren’t souvenirs but people actually buy them to listen to.
I don't hear a lot of difference in sound between the vinyl and the download ; both sound very 'muffled' to my ears. A damn shame! I wonder if the CD-version sounds better :?: ... However, musically I think "Forever Black" is a great record. Can't stop playing it, and I'm soooo looking forward seeing them on KIT next year (cross fingers...). And by the musical quality of this record, I wouldn't have minded a full set of more 'recent' songs ("Paradise Lost" and onwards), which was the original idea of them headlining both nights I guess.

Think there's any chance in hell this won't appear on vinyl/CD relatively soon? MC's are cute, but a terribly fragile format...

Didn't know wether i should create a new thread for this or not but as the thread title still applies & Ernest already mentioned it in the 'playing now' thread i just added it here for those who may be unaware:

Cirith Ungol - Half Past Human EP (2021) OUT NOW!

Image

01. Route 666 (5:05)
02. Shelob's Lair (5:34)
03. Brutish Manchild (3:43)
04. Half Past Human (7:23)

Tim Baker: Vocals
Greg Lindstrom: Guitar
Robert Garven: Drummer
Jim Barraza: Guitar
Jarvis Leatherby : Bass

What's old has become new again. On May 28, 2021, Ventura, California's masters of heavy metal chaos, Cirith Ungol, strike back with a very special EP entitled Half Past Human. The globe was ravaged by pandemic in the wake of the release of the band's triumphant reunion album Forever Black in April 2020. Carefully laid tour plans were dashed. As time stood still, Cirith Ungol dug deep into their archival crypts, drawing back the veiled mists of history to expose long-forgotten jewels from their storied past. In so doing, the band exhumed four songs written in a bygone era but never properly included as part of their fabled discography. Cirith Ungol swept the dust off these precious relics, summoning long-dead forces back to life. Each song was reimagined for today, injected with a fresh dose of power and vitality while preserving their trademark mysticism and remaining drenched in sinister, apocalyptic energy. Recorded under the watchful eye of producer Armand John Anthony (Night Demon / Bewitcher / Gygax) in the darkness of 2020, Half Past Human promises to be a treasured addition to the music collections of Cirith Ungol's loyal legions. In keeping with tradition, the package is completed by stunning cover art courtesy of acclaimed fantasy artist Michael Whelan, from the original Elric series.
Half Past Human will be released via Metal Blade Records on digipak CD, vinyl and digital download on May 28, 2021.

Seems you were right DaN, apparently there was a blink-&-you'll-miss-it digipak CD release for 'The Orange Album' but it was a limited edition of just 100 copies for some reason. The cassette version though now seems to be back in stock on the bandcamp page:
