Avenger- good call on SAINT. They did indeed out-Judas the 'Priest for a few years there.

Re: GRANICUS, I lovelovelove 'Bad Talk'- that's a nasty, baddass song!- but the album overall never completely clicked with me.

Early PORTRAIT (demo, first 7" and the debut album) has often been called as pure MF copying for obvious reasons, and even though I hear a lot more in there, like some other personal favourites such as Hell and Sarcofagus, I understand that especially the vocal delivery instantly brings King Diamond to anyone's mind. But at the time no one else played anything like that and discovering them was a gift that just keeps on giving. Now there's bands like Attic, Dracula and Them and they all sounded ridiculous to me from the start (when Attic put out their demo I was very surprised they actually got a deal but oh well, anything gets signed nowadays)... Whenever anyone tries to copy King's vocal style he just ends up sounding like a shitty B-rate King to me. The difference with Philip of Portrait was that he took that copying on such an indecipherable and lunatic level that while it often only irritates people, I can't get over how great it is for the same reasons. Almost something like the vocals of Christian Death.

I really like their 1st record a lot, and the 2nd album, 'Thieves, Liars, And Traitors', has some moments too.
Avoid the 2016 'Granicus III - Better Days' CD from the reformed band though. It sounds awful unfortunately, as if the engineer & producer were deaf novices. There might well be some decent music on there but it's such a sonic mess that we'll never know.

Total CF/Hellhammer clone. Definitely some riffs lifted directly from Morbid Tales.
Sounds better than most Celtic Frost release IMO haha.

Thunderchild - an obscure Queensryche clone from the 90s and a great one!

Speaking of Queensrÿche, this is pretty close to Geoff Tate, don't you think?

One of the rarest and most obscure US metal 45s out there - SACRED REIGN.

I hope we won't start to post Queensryche copycats of the US scene now? There are countless of them ...

Far too strained for being a Tate clone, in my opinion. ;-)
