DVP 283 Iron Curtain – Savage Dawn LP/CD/T-Shirt

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present IRON CURTAIN’s highly anticipated fifth album, Savage Dawn, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

For nearly 20 years now, Spanish metal inquisition IRON CURTAIN have been stalwart defenders of the faith. With a discography that includes four full-lengths and twice as many EPs, splits, and demos, IRON CURTAIN’s ever-sturdy sound was forged in the fires of the early ‘80s: largely nodding to the eternal Motörhead as well as Tank, but also Canadian gods like Exciter and Razor, to the Teutonic might of early Iron Angel and Grave Digger, to Scandinavian gods OZ and Heavy Load, to cult American icons Abattoir and Savage Grace, and the shores of Britannia with the likes of Diamond Head, Raven, and Girlschool. And with the DYING VICTIMS release of career highpoint Danger Zone in 2019, that sound’s become even more rocking than ever.

After a quick-hitting mini-album (again through DYING VICTIMS) titled Metal Gladiator whereby the band presented the new alongside re-recordings of the old, IRON CURTAIN return to assume their throne with Savage Dawn. Doubtlessly (and vividly!) displayed by its photographic cover art courtesy of Daniel Rabandan, Savage Dawn is indeed a new dawn for IRON CURTAIN: a concerted return to their rough-hewn roots, only spit-shined with the gleaming chrome that’s come to define them in recent years. Thus does Savage Dawn exhibit a unique dichotomy: their ancient metal’s more juiced-up than ever, but the craggy edges come through in the content while the form is powerfully professional – “slick” only in the very best sense, with mixing by the esteemed Javi Félez (Teitanblood, Destroyer 666, Graveyard) and mastering by the equally esteemed Jaime Gómez Arellano (Ghost, Satan, Mayhem) providing that punch. As such, across these ten new tracks (anthemically presaged by “Rattlesnake” on Metal Gladiator, as vintage four-piece Motörheaded as it comes) do we hear IRON CURTAIN throw the likes of classic Riot, Jaguar, and Running Wild into their by-now-characteristic blender, with leads and melodies more soaring than ever.

Cool songs, catchy choruses, straightforward riffs, and pure HEAVY METAL with all killers and no fillers – what more do you need?! IRON CURTAIN drop the biggest sledgehammer with Savage Dawn!

DVP 284 Toxikull – Under the Southern Light LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present TOXIKULL’s highly anticipated third album, Under the Southern Light, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Born and raised under the hot & blinding southern light of Portugal’s capital Lisbon, TOXIKULL took off in 2016 and have backed down since: a tumult from the Atlantic, rising to take the world by storm. With two full-lengths, an EP, and a collection of singles, full of incredible guestsfrom bands such as Skull Fist and Crystal Viper under their belts, TOXIKULL’s taunting, fearless attitude has conquered the European heavy metal underground. Now, after speedmetal-intensive Cursed and Punished in 2019 (which DYING VICTIMS later released on vinyl), they now shift gears with Under the Southern Light, present amore mature, melodic, yet thankfully still-rough version of themselves.

Stomping and strutting with absolutely authentic mid/late ‘80s swagger, Under the Southern Light is an unabashed throwback to the era where heavy metal ruled the airwaves and arenas alike. Some might’ve doubted whether such Sunset Stripping sounds could come from TOXIKULL after the all-pistons-pumping speed metal overdrive of Cursed and Punished, but the ten tracks comprising the 41-minute Under the Southern Light are all anthems in the making: larger than life, heavy and spacious, moody and dynamic. Gleaming with their brightest chrome yet, TOXIKULL here invoke the quintessential likes of ‘80s Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Judas Priest, Accept, Saxon, Manowar, Black Sabbath, WASP, Ratt, Scorpions, Picture, Germany’s Warlock, America’s Icon, France’s Sortilege, and many more. But, instead of pastiche or hero worship, Under the Southern Light is more so a tableau of TOXIKULL’s personal experiences in the world, whereby they rearrange all these classic archetypes into a laser-focused theme on the duality of living in the Southern lands of Europe, in places with so much light, with so much joy and potential, but at the same time, with such scarcity of opportunities, no future, and infested with shadows. “The light that feeds is the same light that burns,” says vocalist Lex Thunder. “And the light that makes you dream is the same light that chains you down and keeps you close to the shadows.”

Bright & burning-hot metal pumping blood from a (metal) heart of darkness, Under the Southern Light takes the party down dark, dirty back streets…dare you drink with TOXIKULL?

DVP 285 Coltre – To Watch With Hands To Touch With Eyes LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present COLTRE’s highly anticipated debut album, To Watch With Hands To Touch With Eyes, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

COLTRE are a heavy metal band based in London, formed in the summer of 2019 when lead guitarist Daniel Sweed and guitarist/vocalist Marco Stamigna crossed paths at the same university. Bassist Max Graves, who also attended the same university, soon joined the lineup. The trio’s shared passion and creative ideas laid the groundwork for their debut release, the EP Under The Influence.

Between September and November of 2019, COLTRE diligently worked on the EP, initially developed as a four-track mini-album. In December of the same year, they released the single “Crimson Killer.” Under The Influence made its debut in February 2020, initially in a self-released CD format, a true DIY edition. The EP’s success caught the attention of DYING VICTIMS, who sought to collaborate with the band. This collaboration resulted in the re-release of Under The Influence in multiple formats, including an additional track (the song “Fight”), in July. The year 2020 concluded with the addition of Edoardo Mariotti to the lineup, taking on the role of drummer for the band.

With the quartet now complete, COLTRE embarked on the arrangement and development of songs that would ultimately become their debut album, To Watch With Hands To Touch With Eyes. If the moody metallic majesty of Under The Influence was a portent of things to come, then To Watch With Hands To Touch With Eyes takes everything to the next level. COLTRE’s charismatic sound is still in place, thankfully – dark ‘n’ mysterious riffs, vigorously galloping rhythms, epic-yet-direct compositions, and the sage-like pipes of Stamigna atop it all – but there’s crucial distinctions here. For one, there’s a crisper sound at play across the LP; the recording’s sharper yet still rustic, perhaps a bit more hard rock in style than the NWOBHM of its predecessor. As such, the band suitably sound even livelier and more locked-in than before, with Mariotti’s many-armed drumming in particular guiding COLTRE to new destinations (and dungeons, and battlefields!). Further, their songwriting still hovers around six minutes per track, but everything feels more compact without losing the latent epicness. Most crucially, there’s a strut and swagger across To Watch With Hands To Touch With Eyes that’s IMPOSSIBLE to deny, such on the Tubeway Army-spoofing “Friends Aren’t Electric.”

One could still be mistaken for thinking COLTRE were some unearthed relic from the original NWOBHM movement, so hot-rockin’ is their swords-aloft surge, evoking high fantasy and urban grit in equal measure, but most importantly retaining that pivotal rock ‘n’ roll thrust Thin Lizzy largely gifted to that movement. But, with increased dynamic interplay and impossibly stronger songs, To Watch With Hands To Touch With Eyes wipes the slate clean and casts COLTRE as new “old” monarchs in the making!

DVP 293 Lucifuge – Hexensabbat LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the highly anticipated sxith album of Germany’s LUCIFUGE, Hexensabbat, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Since 2016, LUCIFUGE have been steadily perfect an addicting style of blackened speed metalpunk, all guided by the iron fist of mainman Equinox. Come 2021’s fourth full-length Infernal Power, Equinox expanded LUCIFUGE to a full lineup, and it paid off in spades: the band’s first album under the banner of DYING VICTIMS capped this signature sound with power and aplomb, exuding a new professionalism that somehow sounded dirtier than ever.

However, it was 2023’s Monoliths of Wrath where LUCIFUGE further spit-shined their sound and took it in a newer but no-less-parallel direction: classic, ripping-FAST thrash of ‘80s gods Sodom, Kreator, Exodus, and of course Slayer. Thankfully, LUCIFUGE keep that sonic shift going with their sixth full-length, Hexensabbat. Ditching more its predecessor’s complex song structures, Hexensabbat heaves toward the gates of Hell with a greasy gallop that brings back a bit of the black while honoring the nether-realms of still-stuck-in-the-‘80s thrash and speed metal. True, those aforementioned gods still hold a place in LUCIFUGE’s current sound, but more so can one detect the likes of Exciter, Razor, Iron Angel, and even later ‘80s Gang Green, the Exploited, and Crumbsuckers. Put another way, if Monoliths of Wrath was spiritually akin to a Combat Records release, then Hexensabbat would definitely come out on Combat Core, so straightforward and rancorous is its all-pistons-pumping surge. Plus, more than a bit of LUCIFUGE’s old-school grit is back in full force, which makes the album’s slightly melodic-yet-malevolent riffing sound majestic – and, most importantly, not render Hexensabbat a total retro retread.

Leaner, meaner, and keeping the 1987 faith alive, LUCIFUGE command you to honor the Hexansabbat!

– Regular edition on black vinyl, with noble embossed cover sleeve, insert, poster, sticker, post card and download code.
– Special edition on ultra clear vinyl, with noble embossed cover sleeve, insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.

DVP 294 Hextar – Doomsayer LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present HEXTAR’s highly anticipated debut album, Doomsayer, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Hailing from the trad-metal hotbed of Italy, HEXTAR were formed in November 2018 by the hands of Marco Scattolin (guitar), Emiliano Zinà (bass, then also backing vocals), and Andrea Feltrin (drums). Shortly after, Edoardo Loreggian joined and sang on the self-titled debut EP, released in April 2020 amidst the first Covid Lockdowns. Edoardo left during the summer of 2020 due to stylistic differences, and with Emiliano now on vocals, the band released the single “Keep Our Flame Alive” during February of 2021. The title would prove prescient, as HEXTAR the band kept working on writing their first full-length, the then-to-be-titled Doomsayer, which would begin production during September 2022. Shortly after the drum recordings, the band had to part ways with Andrea due to personal issues. They then decided to keep working on the album behind the scenes while looking for a replacement, which came in the form of Amedeo Paolini, who joined in March 2023. The production of the album finally came to a close in October 2023, when HEXTAR were also joined by a long-sought second guitarist, Niccolò Giacometti.

At last here, Doomsayer is a big & boisterous blast of classic metal heroism. Ever since their inception, HEXTAR aimed at writing a style of power metal reminiscent of the genre’s early days. From early Helloween to likewise-early Blind Guardian, the inspirations can be heard aplenty across Doomsayer, but HEXTAR are nothing if not true heavy metal maniacs, and thus will one find plenty more traditional metal-oriented elements across the album. For those whose hearts similarly beat true, this debut album will tread some familiar territory, but territory that’s explored with power and personality, charisma and catchiness. Influences aside, which can’t be cataloged as easily as naming a couple foundational names of the genre, HEXTAR’s ultimate goal is to craft songs which can be simultaneously anthemic and laced with just enough complexity, pushing and pounding forward to song structures that are unexpected and varied but never nonsensical. Similarly, Zinà’s vocals display a wide range of note choices and timbres whilst remaining focused on heavy metal heroism; indeed, a great deal of the magic and machismo of Doomsayer comes down to his going-for-it throat. Nevertheless, HEXTAR are truly a full unit here, playing their hearts out together like a band of brothers, a brigade of warriors who wield fantastical guitar solos like dread swords.

A veritable blast from the past that’s thankfully set to slay the present, HEXTAR arrive on a plume of dragon fire with Doomsayer!

DVP 295 Critical Defiance – The Search Won’t Fall LP

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present Critical Defiance’s highly anticipated third album, The Search Won’t Fall… , on vinyl LP format. Unspeakable Axe Records is taking care of the CD edition.

The Chilean metal force known as Critical Defiance has something for every thrash fan out there. Not in the sense of being homogenized and generic, but in their alchemical and nearly magical melding of blitzkrieg tempos, dizzying technicality, aggressive shouts and gang vocals, and–rarest of all for a post-1990 thrash act–a healthy dose of actual, memorable melody. Now about to drop their third full-length like a bomb from a warplane, they have added a new element to the mix: just a taste of the eerie melancholy and harsh melodrama of black metal.

Their release schedule has been nearly as fast as their music, with the debut (Misconception) coming in 2019, and its follow-up (No Life Forms) in 2022. They have let even less time elapse from then until this new platter’s arrival, taking line-up changes in stride and pushing forward relentlessly regardless. The addition of Mauricio Toledo on guitar (just prior to their previous album) has pushed their music in new directions. That black metal aspect–some tremelo riffing, some blastbeats, bits of a distinctly new melodic sensibility–lends the album an updated feeling that sets it apart from its predecessors, while by no means abandoning the thrash foundation that has served them so well. All of this ambition is well-served by a terrific production job that balances just the right amount of rawness and polish. Three albums in, Critical Defiance are poised to deliver their most ferocious work yet. Angry yet uplifting, full of the spirit of true metal both old and new, it’s a record that only these guys could make.

– Regular edition on black vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card and download code.
– Special edition on bone colored vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.

Dying Victims Productions is proud to announce the following new releases:

DVP 280 Stress Angel – Punished by Nemesis LP/CD

On March 15, 2024, Dying Victims Productions & Stygian Black Hand will unchain the highly anticipated sophomore full-length from Stress Angel, “Punished by Nemesis”. LP out in US on Stygian Black Hand and EU on Dying Victims Productions. CD out worldwide on Dying Victims Productions.

With the flames of the Bursting Church still ravaging the minds and turntables of its parishioners, Stress Angel throw another scalding 40 minutes of maniacal deathrash into the blaze!

At the forefront, the songwriting on “Punished by Nemesis” demonstrates the maturation (or putrefaction) of Stress Angel’s already established sound, driving deeper into the twisted corridors of death, thrash, and first wave black metal. Weaving within, between, and beyond these classifications, the countless riffs on this album solidify Stress Angel’s reputation as not only wizened practitioners of the craft, but innovators as well.

Leading the punishment, drummer/vocalist Manny Sores continues his campaign of old metal piledriving with a thunderous performance that forces heads to bang and eventually roll (as a privileged few who have witnessed his mastercraft live can attest), while his tormented screams expose sickening truths about those who don the cloth and preach the holy word. Session soldier Hank S. Blackyard also returns on bass with his now-signature grim and gristly tone, beefing up the already muscular strings laid out with a butcher’s precision by guitarist Nicolai Orifice. All the while, the warm, familiar production evokes a feeling not unlike what one may have experienced dropping the needle on “Mental Funeral” or putting a dub of “Anno Domini” in the tape deck for the first time 35 years ago.

Hear the Jericho trumpet blare to herald “Punished by Nemesis”, a necessary evil for those who crave to be punished by authentic thrashing metal of death. In their own words, Stress Angel state, “‘Punished By Nemesis’ aims only to torment and abuse your already demented existence”. Recommended for fans of Autopsy, Tormentor, Old, and Aura Noir.

– Regular edition on black vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card and download code.
– Special edition on red vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.
– CD edition with sticker and obi.

DVP 286 Aardvark – Tough Love LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the highly anticipated debut album of Australia’s AARDVARK, Tough Love, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Not to be confused with the cult ‘70s prog band, Australia’s AARDVARK are a classic heavy metal quartet hailing from Melbourne. Born from a desire to bring the masses together with the biting forces of power and honesty, AARDVARK aim to prove there is weight to sincerity and strength in vulnerability. The band’s twin-guitar attack keeps fists pumping with tough-yet-melodic riffs, while their thunderous rhythm section drives the tank forward with unyielding brawn.

Formed in 2021, AARDVARK burst onto the Australian heavy metal scene seemingly out of nowhere with an increasingly packed weekly residency at the iconic Tote Hotel in August 2023, followed quickly by a sold-out launch show for their debut 7” single. The AARDVARK hasn’t slowed down since, with a blistering run of local shows and upcoming supports in 2024 for Cirith Ungol and Riot City.

Now that tank is ready to plow down the gates with the debut album Tough Love. With its cover art encapsulating all their central themes, Tough Love proves the full potential of AARDVARK and that they band is good on their word. With nine tracks clocking in at 44 minutes, Tough Love is a compendium of songs that present a tough, masculine vulnerability, a mixture of personal anthems and mythical journeys that offer a pertinent contrast of escapism and self-reflection. With a sound somewhere between NWOBHM and traditional heavy metal, Tough Love aims to impact with a mix of mid-tempo rockers, poignant ballads, and attacking speed.

Reverential to the past but by no means blinkered by it, AARDVARK inject their own personality and panache into 1983-vintage heavy metal: moody, melodic, dynamic, and dashing. If Conan the Barbarian could shed a tear, he’d do it listening to Tough Love!

– Regular edition on black vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card and download code.
– Special edition on red vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.
– CD edition with sticker and obi.

DVP 287 Armagh – Exclamation Po!nt LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present ARMAGH’s highly anticipated third album, Exclamation Po!nt, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Formed in 2012, ARMAGH are a heavy metal force based in Satanic City Warsaw and Necropolis Navis. Mixing classic heavy metal from the ’70s and ’80s with proto-black metal, ARMAGH are the creators of First Wave Only movement, which unites several Polish bands delivering old-school metal – among them, labelmates GALLOWER and SEXMAG but also Torpor, Wielki Mrok, and R.I.P. – with primal severity in their sound and message.

Truly, ARMAGH are a maniac maniac’s band, idiosyncratic mainlining such noble influences as Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, KISS, Manilla Road, early Slayer and Megadeth, W.A.S.P, Bathory, Dissection, Running Wild, KAT, and the NWOBHM in general into something authentically rustic and effortlessly unique. But it was their second album, Serpent Storm – originally self-released in 2022, but then released on vinyl the next year by DYING VICTIMS – where they had their breakout moment. A true record collector’s record, Serpent Storm displayed its power and personality at every turn, coming from an alien place – one where Battle Cry, Another Perfect Day, Haunting the Chapel, Chinatown, Under the Sign of the Black Mark, and Born Again all simultaneously play in perfect, hellish harmony – but evincing a wild and weird but never belabored alchemy that was simply peerless.

Now, two years later, ARMAGH stir up their cauldron once again with their third album, Exclamation Po!nt. This record features a wholly reconstructed lineup, with founding frontman/guitarist Galin Soulreaper now joined by fellow guitarist Vikk Vandall, bassist Tom CultCommander, and drummer Al Atom Smasher. As such, it’s a far more collaborative effort than the largely Soulripper-written Serpent Storm, with each new member adding their own fiery flair to an altogether less-immediate but much-more-mysterious album: Tom CultCommander’s spacey & hypnotic bass work (a Hawkwind influence is detectable across the record, as is a faint whiff of Rush), Vandall’s impulsive & spring-loaded leads, and the jazzy, Bill Ward-esque drumming of Atom Smasher. Less is indeed MORE here!

Just as wild and weird as its mighty predecessor but perhaps eating subtler, sweeter fruits, the deliberately demonstrative Exclamation Po!nt dives deeply into moodier and mustier waters, sounding impossibly older than even Serpent Storm. It’s all unmistakably ARMAGH, but if LP#3 proves anything (and loudly), it’s that these Polish maniacs are operating at the height of their powers – and, again, as a full band this time. No dynamic is too severe, no construct too off-kilter, no speed shunned: with greater emphasis on harmony vocals and Soulreaper’s lonely-warlock tones guiding the listener into a misty, mystical wonder-world, Exclamation Po!nt weaves a plaintive-yet-powerful spell that traverses the whole spectrum of human experience. And perhaps it’s there that ARMAGH in general and Exclamation Po!nt in particular excels – that it’s undeniably human in construction and execution, but its journey (and destination) is otherworldly to the splendorous extreme. Or, cutting out the fancy words, what we have here is heartfelt, handmade heavy metal: no modern, no trends, no way!

No longer the “sleeper hit of the year,” ARMAGH are prepared to punctuate “best of 2024” conversations already with Exclamation Po!nt!

– Special edition on splatter vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present SPASMS’ eerie debut demo, Invocatio I, on music cassette format.

This new entity hailing from Sweden consists of veterans of the underground scene including members from acts such as Antichrist, Insane and Witchgrave. SPASMS aim for a horror-inflicting, blood-chilling raw and ugly heavy metal sound. The 3 tracks plus instrumental take you to the cemetery, invoke voodoo spells and introduce you to a maniacal midnight slasher.

DVP 297 Lucifer’s Hammer – Be And Exist LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the highly anticipated fourth album of Chile’s LUCIFER’S HAMMER, Be and Exist, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Since their formation in 2012, Chile’s LUCIFER’S HAMMER have been fighting the good fight for heavy metal, both at home and abroad. During their first years, the homeland wasn’t as renown for traditional metals, but ever since their ascent to the international stage, LUCIFER’S HAMMER have wielded a wealth of influence on the wider Chilean heavy metal scene. Their Night Sacrifice demo in 2013 was their first public work, but it was the full-length Beyond the Omens debut in 2016 which really blew the doors open, reaping widespread acclaim and firmly establishing their trademark sound: pure & proud HEAVY METAL equally rooted in the ‘70s and ‘80s, with an air of anthemic memorability ala classic radio metal but never forgetting their underground roots. LUCIFER’S HAMMER really expanded upon that radio angle with the subsequent Victory is Mine mini-album a year later, showing darkness and versatility in equal measure. They further consolidated this sound with two more full-lengths, 2018’s Time is Death and 2021’s The Trip.

Now, longtime fans DYING VICTIMS step forth to raise high the banner of LUCIFER’S HAMMER with their fourth album, Be and Exist. The title is something of a clarion call for the Chileans: staying put in the ‘80s for years now, the band simply want to continue crafting true-as-steel HEAVY METAL that bangs the head as profoundly as it enflames the heart. Like an iron fist lined with velvet, there’s a deceptively silky surge to Be and Exist that drives deepest into the heart of mid ‘80s metal, all the while pumping pistons patiently and powerfully. With leads moody and emotive and founding frontman / guitarist Hades’ vocals ringing out through the night, across rain-soaked streets and through the back alleys, LUCIFER’S HAMMER here deliver a masterclass in mystery & atmosphere. The album’s attention-grabbing cover art vividly illustrates the point, but the band are certainly tackling more cosmic matters here, and it fits perfectly with the classy classic metal across Be and Exist. At any one point, one can detect the likes of prime Dokken, Heavy Pettin’, Diamond Head, Europe, Witch Cross, Virgin Steele, and even ‘80s KISS at their most metal – but the way these noble influences are rearranged and reformed into anthems is 100% LUCIFER’S HAMMER.

Indeed are LUCIFER’S HAMMER a band with a vision of the future, treading the metal boards for over a decade now with pure passion and hunger. Life doesn’t come easy in South America, and so have they made their music the ideal stage where the hammer will fall with force to demonstrate all that’s in their hearts. To Be an Exist – this is what heavy metal dreams are made of!

– Regular edition on black vinyl, with noble embossed cover sleeve, insert, poster, sticker, post card and download code.
– Special edition on transparent blue inyl, with noble embossed cover sleeve, insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.
– CD edition with sticker and obi.

DVP 298 Angel Sword – World Fighter LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present ANGEL SWORD’s highly anticipated third album, World Fighter, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Hailing from Helsinki, Finland’s ANGEL SWORD formed in 2010 with the intent to play old-school heavy metal. And they get right to it with the too-perfectly titled demo Where We Are Going You Cannot Come demo later that year. Two EPs followed – 2013’s Ripping the Heavens and 2015’s The Midwinter Tapes – before their decisive debut album, Rebels Beyond the Pale, in 2016. Another perfectly titled recording, ANGEL SWORD’s first full-length was a fresh breath of old air, finding some elusive (and deceptively laidback yet rough) landscape of late ‘70s heavy metal, subsequent NWOBHM, and adjacent early US power metal. Three years later followed the tighter and slightly more aggressive Neon City, expanding the band’s still-‘80s-bound gaze through a charmingly rustic retro-futurist lens. During all these years, ANGEL SWORD have opened for Manilla Road, Blitzkrieg, and Satan as well as playing such festivals as Metal Assault, Metalheadz Open Air, Storm Crusher warmup, and Up the Hammers warm-up. Oh, and along the way, Darkthrone’s Fenriz thoroughly championed the band!

“Our goal in this age of soulless, overproduced modern metal is to re-summon the metal gods of old with a skull-crushing, vomit-inducing dose of rough-edged heavy metal,” state ANGEL SWORD, and that’s exactly what they do with World Fighter! It’d be easy to simply say that their third album is a fairly even balance between the first two albums and…well, it’s kinda the truth! Sporting yet another amazing cover artwork, World Fighter brings the bathos and bravado right from its opening seconds, ANGEL SWORD sounding like true world fighters as they chug forward to their battle hymns. From there, nuance and shade – or, rather, just MOOD – become the watchwords as the quartet keep the thrust mostly mid-tempo, allowing their dark melodicism to fully take flight. And, while ANGEL SWORD never seem like they’re in any hurry, the eight tracks of World Fighter are actually the band’s most uptempo work yet; it’s just that they’re exuding such poise now that that pace feels deceptively relaxed, that big & brassy pulse coasting with coolness and heaviness. Put another way, the album’s almost-uniformly balls-to-the-wall gait summons an effervescent energy – and maximum attitude. Truly, ANGEL SWORD are nothing if not engaging in their rough ‘n’ tumble, raise-the-swords charisma, becoming those very blue-collar ruffians you can really believe in. Coupled with a smoother, somewhat-shimmering style of production that still allows their intrinsic grit to “shine” through, World Fighter goes against all odds to become ANGEL SWORD’s crowning achievement to date. All weekend warriors, enter their Church of Rock post-haste!

– Special edition on neon yellow vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.

DVP 299 Vendel – Out In The Fields LP/CD

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present VENDEL’s highly anticipated debut album, Out in the Fields, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

VENDEL are an epic heavy metal band hailing from Moscow, formed in 2015 by a group of friends who are all members of the local metal community. From the onset, their inspiration was taken from genuine NWOBHM and ‘80s doom metal as well as the history and archeology of the Dark Ages period, which serves as the strongest influence on the band’s lore and their attendant lyrical and visual concepts. This combination – with a particular emphasis on the epic side of heavy metal ala classic Candlemass, Manilla Road, and Viking-era Bathory as equally as contemporary doom informed by the likes of the UK’s Solistice and Russian heroes Scald – manifested in VENDEL’s self-titled debut EP in 2017. Lyrically and aesthetically, there was a deep appreciation of the late Iron Age, also known as the “Vendel Era,” and hence the band’s moniker. They followed up that EP with another one, titled Dirge, in 2019, which included one new track as well as covers of Manilla Road and Saint Vitus. Also in 2019, VENDEL made their first live appearance outside Russia at the Riddle of Steel Fest, which made a huge impact on the band’s next activity.

At long last, that “next activity” has manifested in VENDEL’s debut album, Out in the Fields. While the band’s first full-length comprises two songs rerecorded from their EPs – the first one’s “Defender” and the title track to Dirge – this structure more so underlines where VENDEL are coming from and, with a suitably stage-setting intro segueing into the first track, then where they are going. Absolutely HUGE in sound and songwriting, atmosphere and execution, VENDEL here give a masterclass in EPIC heavy metal; “doomed,” definitely, but there’s energy to spare no matter the tempo, and thus do the four component tracks of Out in the Fields seemingly fly by in a flash. Make no mistake, the journey is vast in scale and arduous in terms of emotional reserves tapped, but the album is utterly engrossing each (HUGE) step of the way. Thankfully, VENDEL don’t abandon their core sound but, rather, re-solidify it with bigger & better production, performances that dazzle in their technique yet hit hard with their physicality, and vocalist Alexey Goryachev absolutely spellbinding the listener with tales of heroism and death, particularly on the poignantly titled “Never Surrender.” It all becomes the very definition of what a debut album should be.

Fans of the aforementioned as well as Solitude Aeternus, Atlantean Kodex, labelmates MEGATON SWORD, and even Tony Martin-era Black Sabbath, you are hereby commanded to bend the knee before VENDEL’s Out in the Fields. NEVER SURRENDER!

– Regular edition on black vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card and download code.
– Special edition on golden vinyl, with insert, poster, sticker, post card, download code and patch.
– CD edition with sticker and obi.
