Might be me? I have most Stone items but i'm still missing a few cassettes and CDs, and the alleged 'Free' 2LP which I've never even seen a picture of (does this actually exist?). I did finally find that promo-only Mad Hatter's Den 7" though :D

Damn, that Metallica. You'd think for such an item he would have better pictures.

The most expensive and rare boot which i've ever seen. Let's wait and see scans or detailed photos from seller and finally prove that this mythical CD was never been pressed officially by Roadrunner not as jewel case version nor slimline

It does exist. :) Seen it for sale couple of times on finnish auction and second hand sites but it is quite expensive even in here.

I think I agree that the RR jewel case does not exist (slimline ... maybe).

Really bad photos on purpose ? The last digit of barcode seems 1 ... whereas in the website is 0 ?

Slimline is also a fake pressed in ultra-limited quantities (probably only a few copies) which made this release so mythical among naive collectors. Look here:

P.S: The same story happened with Slimline version of Manowar "Hail To England"

http://www.musik-sammler.de/cover/352000/351639_1.jpg
even from this small scan we can see the same P+O matrix style as both Metallica bootleg versions represents. Never seen an official nor bootleg copy of M-80 in slimline as was printed in booklets of Roadrunner slimline series advertisement. I think all these CDs were planned, but never been pressed. This fact spawned many rumors, theories and speculations and now we see this crazy auction.

I thought the Manowar existed... looks like they all come from the same bootleger. But did they know about matrix codes already back then ?

But that's not proof that they are fake, is it? :?

One thing, as I see it, is for sure - these CDs were made in a professional pressing plant, they actually look like they REALLY were pressed by P+O. I always though the photos are photoshopped.

It does not look like a bootleg to me, only thing that looks suspicious is that back-cover that looks very 'amateurish'..

Btw. the listing ended because the item had an error.. :?: :?

I never really collected the slimlines but weren't they all pressed in Japan (not Germany)?

Yes, this is perfect bootleg replica of all times. I never seen such a ideally imitation of P+O Pallas "pixel" font. BUT(T):
1. Fact. Pallas started to press CDs in 1987 (Matrix of this boot says 09-86 = September of 1986)
2. "Made In Germany" on CD face. It must be written "Made in W.Germany" in 1986
3. I don't know any other CD pressed on Pallas by Roadrunner label. AFAIK they never used this plant. RR used CTA in Japan (real slimlines from 1984-1985), then Polygram, Hanover (only a few very rare CDs in 1986) and since late 1986-1987 usual Sonopress.
4. My Sinner "Dangerous Charm" http://www.discogs.com/Sinner-Dangerous ... se/4397243 among the very earliest releases pressed by this plant in 1987 has 0626-A in matrix code, but this metallica boot has 1029-A (have to be 1988?).
This CD has many small mistakes, but if you don't know all this specific details it may looks like real thing, but of course it's not!
Unfortunately somebody removed P+O Pallas page from Discogs few days ago and i can't check other releases. I think bootleggers stole this code 1029-A from matrix of another release and invented other details to made it looks "naturally"
Also it was printed (interesting in which quantities?) on official pressing plant somewhere. Another similar examples: Sentenced "Shadows.." with wrong matrix which looks so professional that many old collectors still believe this is real first press, Hades "Resisting Success", Burzum "Det Som Engang Var" (TSD EYE01 in matrix) and many others.

Interesting ...

Do you maybe know where the slim cases were produced, Germany or Japan?

There were also other CD pressing plants in early/mid 80s in Germany too, right?

To my knowledge only one the very first european pressing plant existed before the CD mass production in 1986-87 it's Polygram in Hanover. This Rainbow CD made exactly by this factory. Too bad just a small number of Metal releases was pressed there back in early-middle 80's. I like very much original sound from master tapes on those ancient CDs without any remastering
The second question about slim cases. Did you mean white "flip" slim case on Roadrunner slimlines? I never seen german versions, only japanese. Also i saw few Roadrunner releases (Twisted Sister and something else) were pressed by CTA Japan in 1985 but packed in usual jewel case.

Yes, I was referring to those flip slim cases. Weren't those slimline CDs pressed in Japan for the European market? And they used Japanese CD pressing plant because there weren't many in Europe/Germany at the time, but that doesn't necessarly mean that the inserts or these special cases were actually made in Japan, they might be made somewhere else I guess.
