Tracking & Hunting Stories by request (Dan)
We did not know that the background cover was just plain grey, without any pictureXCEL wrote:I was starting to lose hope, any suggestions as to why the rest of the guys didnt find this easy answer?
So Drysill, Flanez and some others would have fit in, since the colours of the covers are actually mostly grey and the letters red...
So is the correct answer Lazzer or Sacrafice?

Well, before i start ,there are a couple of things i would like to say,in no way did i intend to show off or be cocky, had i wanted that i would write to the collector porn forum and upload pictures-believe me i can make this really spectacular-even a kid can understand that for someone who collects for some 25 years on like me this is way easy(my private blog is a different story). So i will write stories-there are tens of them-every time someone asks for them.Second ,i want younger collectors to understand what a rush it was finding rare records in the pre internet days,no one can understand this unless he had been abroad buying lps before 2002 or something like that,so dont rush to judge a story as it could mean a lot more to the person writing it as it brings back precious feelings and memories.I needed to say these and i apologise if bored you to death.NNNNNNNNNNow,lets see,its 1994 and i am digging at the surbiton fair in london, there is this stall with crates of 1 quid lps on the floor,so as always i kneel down and start work, until i find 2 curious looking lps,one was stygian shore which i later found out was pretty rare and another lp by a german band strangely titled first experience with the unknown, now who dares say this was not a catchy tiltle?i pick them both and as i get home i can find no info on this lp-NOTHING,which makes me believe its nothing special as a collectors piece,it stays lurking in my collection for months-i almost forgot about it-until i receive a wants list from a fellow collector from the states-one of the biggest collections in the u.s,in the list there was the sacrafice lp with a note next to it "does it exist?".I was shocked as any of you would ,knowing that this man had connections with every known big collector and seller in the world, needless to say he was speechless-to his admittance-when he read my letter stating i actually had this vinyl,at that point there was only one lp in my mind that would be a dream record to own, leather nunn,so i asked this in trade sure he wouldnt be able to find this for me.You know what this guy did as he later told me?he contacted the seller that recently had sold the first ever copy on a list-i am sure some were dealt under the counter-and got the phone number of the buyer, contacted him and made him an offer he couldnt resist-i repeat thats what he told me-got hold of the copy and sent it to me.Words cannot describe the feelings when i opened the cardboard box.The funny thing was i had made xerox copies of front and back cover of the sacrafice lp knowing i would never again have this, but the people i spread the word about and the contacts the new owner of the copy made paid off.many copies were found and i could buy one for me for $35(fully signed again as the one i had found at the surbiton fair). To me,a TOP story till the day i die!!!!!Thanx for reading.Cheers
great story indeed. Even though it turned out to be an incredible trade years later....I like to hear those stories from the preinternet date. It must have been a pain in the ass to discover those rare records, which includes travelling to other countries or taking the risk to invest a lot of money in a record, which you never listened to. Therefore I have a lot of respect for the Metalpage guys who collect that much obscure stuff.XCEL wrote:Well, before i start ,there are a couple of things i would like to say,in no way did i intend to show off or be cocky, had i wanted that i would write to the collector porn forum and upload pictures-believe me i can make this really spectacular-even a kid can understand that for someone who collects for some 25 years on like me this is way easy(my private blog is a different story).
Interesting to hear that Sacrafice was a top rarity back then. Never listened to it, but heard that it was mediocre...Btw. how much was the Leather Nunn worth back then? And how did people from Greece even know about this record? Can't imagine that back in 94 many people were searching for this record....
Exactly the same way people from Germany, Switzerland, U.S.A. knew about it back then. By dealers' sale lists and collectors' wants lists. Before internet there were limited information sources but a lot of hunting passion.roihlem wrote:Btw. how much was the Leather Nunn worth back then? Cool to hear about your old trade with Paul back in the early 90's(I'm sure this was who you made the trade with). My memory that the reason Paul was looking for Sacrafice 12" was he was a picture in it from a B-horror film from the 80's, I guess in this movie they are in a room and you can see the cover of the Sacrafice record, he had never heard of it and put it on his wantslist. I might have the story slightly wrong but I think that is the basic idea.
