I am sorry but you really should not make a statement on a web-site like "THIS IS LEGIT!" when in fact you really dont know. That is just as misleading as the people talked about here stating such things on Ebay to sell a boot for $$$. Someone UNKNOWING will read your statement and think it is true meanwhile you dont have a clue.

Apollo Ra no longer owenns the rights to the songs on the vinyl issue. They do owen the rights to the extra tracks on the CD but that is ALL.
The band SOLD ALL there rights to Carl Canedy a long time ago (and where happy at the time with what they got in return)

The other funny thing is I owen the artwork haha what a joke. But whatever I dont care about any of this.

JUST DO NOT try and fool the public by saying it is legit when in fact it is not.

i have nothing to gain from "misleading or fooling the people" as you said. i just told you what the word is down here since the unisound guy used to put his company logo on releases that wouldn't bring copyright trouble or problems with the law in general. if you are so sure that he couldn't have made this a legit release (meaning that you have spoken with the man himself or with the band members or with carl canedy or smthing like that) please share that info with us. in the meanwhile you are just "assuming" that this is a bootleg as much as i am "assuming" this is a legit.

Yes if you dont already know I ran OPM records and YES I paid Carl a lot of money to do this release and YES i talked to Carl a few times about the CD and he had nothing to do with it and legaly it is a BOOT as he is the copy right owner to the songs.

Now I THINK (Not Sure) that Unisound contacted the band and the band said YES put the CD out and gave them the demo tracks to add.

Now did Unisound KNOW that Carl owned the rights (I DONT KNOW) I am sure the band wasn't saying

But the FACT is he does.

NOW IS IT A BOOT??? Who really cares??

Hell I own a copy, But that still does not make it legit in my mind.

I mean as consumers and fans of heavy metal we really can only do so much. I mean do you really think everyone has time to look up every single release and investigate it to the fullest to see whether or not it's a bootleg? And then you can get into the argument that labels who don't put out illegal pressings, BUT don't pay their bands either. I know labels right now that do that and have done that for years... promise the bands this and that and never see a dime. So in my eyes those are bootlegs too. Even if the band gave the right to release their album, that doesn't give them the right to steal money they should have earned from the pressing. I hate that just as much as bootlegging if not more! What's worse, a band that refuses to put out their stuff and it gets bootlegged or a band that trys to put out their stuff and a label completely rips them off?
It all sucks.... and the average metalhead doesn't know anything about legal and illegal pressings..... and how they effect the world of music... so how can we fix it all?

I agree. I've been burned in the past buying bootlegs and will not do it again. You spend lots of money and get a CD where half the tracks are mis-spelled, poor CD pressings, and on some of them, the vinyl that was recorded even skips.

Avoid bootlegs at all costs. If you really want something, just download it and burn a CDR.

I made my own LORD CRUCIFIER bootleg CDR with a cover and back insert with a spine and everything... and that's worked fine for me for years and in a couple more years we'll probably get an offical re-issue on THE MISKATONIC FOUNDATION....

(no offense to the person(s) saying and thinking this) But buying a bootleg so your collection "looks more stylish" , I've learned that we're all just bullshitting ourselves... I used to think that way too... but really a CDR does just as good of a job as a bootleg CD.

While I do not condone bootlegs I want to make a comment on the following statement:

Mike Varney owns everything that was on Shapnel (EVERYTHING) any and all CD's of this stuff that are not on Shrapnel ARE BOOTLEGS and he has been known to take the time to stop it.

In the few times I met Varney I found out something from him: He does not care about metal at all. He is just a business man, maybe once he liked it, who knows? But what I find absolutely hilarious is here is a business man with good money sense (he made a lot on metal let me tell you) and he keeps the majority of his back catalog OUT OF PRINT. So here is a guy that owns everything and he has alot of $$ and he does not protect his catalog by keeping it in print because he just does not care, just enough to once in awhile send a threatening letter to a bootlegger. So I think it is absolutely HILARIOUS that HAWAII and HEXX and GRIFFIN and EXCITER (and more) ALL have been bootlegged, it is Varney's own fault! that really just boggles my mind. It is incredible, I mean who would not do it, it is free money. He could be selling the shit out of his music he owns and what does he do? Nothing, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA go bootleggers, go.

Generally if I see a CD that I know is a bootleg of a vinyl that I know was never released on CD before, and I want it, I will usually buy it if I can't find or afford the original vinyl!
But if I know there is an 'official' CD release I will avoid the bootleg version like the plague.
It doesn't bother me if it's not legit, as long as it hasn't officially been released before.
I generally avoid bootleg LP's unless it's Rush or Venom.
& most of those Reborn Classics bootleg CD's are actually worth collecting.

I agree with what all you said EXCEPT about the Reborn Classics. Those Reborn Classics are craps imo. I threw away my Cirith Ungol RC Cd when I got the official reissues.

I bought my Jag Panzer 'Ample Destruction' CD on Barricade at pretty cheap price many years back. I still remember when I realized the CD was a bootleg, I felt so ashamed to tell my friends that I own the CD, ha Now this CD has become some 'collector' item...

One funny thing is I aware sometimes people are willing to pay high prices for bootlegs but refuse to buy official releases for even a lower price. Medieval Steel is a good example. I just don't quite understand.

And about those Greek-made bootlegs on ebay, I wouldn't even call them 'bootlegs', those are counterfeits!
