'Under The Sign...' would easily be mine followed closely by 'Blood Fire Death'

Best ever Bathory song is: 'The Golden Walls Of Heaven' ...utterly brilliant lyrics & a totally chaotic and barbaric song

"Sacred shrine of life and death
Apharamons gold key
The raping of holy interior
And all concealed
Now masturbated upon is throne of gold"

Many good albums but my favorite is 'Hammerheart' while 'Under The Sign...' comes pretty close.

For me, all the BATHORY albums are great, including "Requiem", "Octagon" and "Destroyer of worlds". Even the solo albums have clear moments of good inspiration.

Hard choise, as I love the 6 first albums, Blood on Ice and the Nordland albums.
But the vote goes to Blood Fire Death. Monumental album.

s/t.

even though pretty much every bathory album is worth owning and listening to, the s/t was instrumental in getting me into metal.

runners-up: blood fire death, hammerheart, nordland 2

My favorite is Blood Fire Death. You get the best of both worlds: the slow/midpaced, crushing tunes and the insane aggressive ones. Right now, I think I'd rank the top five Bathory albums this way:

1. Blood Fire Death
2. Twilight of the Gods
3. Hammerheart
4. Under the Sign of the Black Mark
5. Bathory

Twilight of the Gods, without hesitation! The climax/resolve at the end of "Blood and Iron" is better than just about anything in the universe!

My vote is for Bathory's S/T. Every riff has pure raw and evil sound!

My top 5 is :

"Bathory"
"The Return"
"Twilight Of The Gods"
"Hammerheart"
"Blood Fire Death"

Northern wind take my poll up high

Very hard for me to choose one Bathory album. I am going to go with the first one though as it is the first one I heard and it was (and is) so evil sounding. Hammerheart would probably be my second choice.

One of the most important, powerful and visionary heavy metal bands of the last 25 years.

The first 6 LPs + 'Blood on ice' are all diamond encrusted heavy metal gems.

My favourite has always been 'The return' though, for the pure malevolent darkness of Quorthon's vocals and guitar sound. Closely followed by 'Hammerheart' and 'Bathory'...

As a kid discovering extreme metal the 'aura' of Bathory always captivated me as well.

I can still remember how our collective jaws dropped when the first Bathory album was played at my friend's house all those years ago. Couldn't believe what we heard. Great memories, but the best album? Probably change my mind later, but The Return... for now
