How on earth are this band still producing such unique and challenging music this far into their career? 15 albums in & they still haven't made the same record twice.

Imagination, talent, perseverance, I'd say. Surely one of the greatest.

That new Voivod one made me :)
For the first time in many years I feel compelled to check out the whole album - cheers for the reminder.

On the subject of unique sounds, by sheer random chance I happened to play this one from start to finish this morning:

I remember how my gf at the time played it alot around the time it came out. Still stands the test of time I think..

No. I'm not a completist these days, aside from a very few select bands. Space & finances.
I'd stumbled across the album for d/l on some blog last week & have given it several listens & i'm enjoying it a lot. If it's still working it's magic on me in a month then i'll purchase.
Hugely impressd that a band now 4 decades into their career would decide to try harmony vocals & they work surprisingly well, but knowing Voivod, they may still never employ them again. :D

Don't know that i'd ever heard this Fear Of God album before. For some reason the 1st song reminded me of this:

I cannot, I shall not, I will not obey.

I'm often quite resistant to Japanese Hard Rock/Metal of this era because many of the bands were so specifically derivative of certain particular Western bands, (for example, Murasaki = Deep Purple) but this sounds far more individual than what many of their peers were doing. And what a brilliantly OTT perfectly executed cover design. Certainly worthy of further investigation, thanks for the steer lunaboy.

Listening to it after reading euphoric review. Not bad if one is persistent enough to get through first couple o' trax.

A lot of cliches, naturally, but tight and properly produced. Quite good for 2023.
