4 best Heavy/Doom metal countrys

Post by Rock Beast »

Which countrys have been the best when it comes to revarding the world with amazing Heavy/Doom for the last 30-40 years my friends ??
I would say United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden and Denmark.
What do you think ??

Not an easy question to answer... Many of the western countries had huge scenes with plenty of immortal Metal legends but even more horrible poser crap, some smaller more 'exotic' countries had barely a handful of bands but most of them were top-notch. For the moment I would vote for:

UK (no comments needed)
Italy (doom, gloom & obscurity as well as a bunch of very talented songwriters)
Russia (the masters of melancholy)
Belgium (highest quality-Metal-bands-per-capita on the European mainland)

Yeah I can see your point. Italy is a big mystery why it have turned out to be such a big breakground for Occult and Gloomy metal. Maybe because of the Catholic church. Still they deliver great bands still today.

eah certainly the catholic church and their myths have played a big role in the feeeling and background for the Italian bands. A feeling that other band from catholic countries like Spain, Portugal and France haven't gotten.

Britain and Italy are for me number 1 for Doom.

Agree with Italy. A country that produced some really weird, obscure, cult and talented bands.

I would vote:

1) Antarctica
2) Greenland

You got to admit it would be pretty to cool to vibe out in Antarctica.

With the exception of Italy ,I think the Protestant countries do it better - all that pent up puritanical rage and lack of colourful iconography for visual reference ,that forces them to withdraw into the darkest recesses of their mind....or some bollocks like that...

Of course you could argue Tony Iommi -the inventor of Doom- is a Catholic , but so was Martin Luther , the inventor of Protestantism...

Anyway I don't want to derail this thread into an orgy of sectarian violence ,so I'll just nominate The UK ,Finland ,Italy ,Sweden and probably most of all that former puritan colony of the United States -after all they only gave us Pentagram ,St.Vitus ,The Obsessed ,TGOS ,Revelation/Against Nature , Unorthodox/Asylum ,Penance ,Trouble etc ,etc.....although a population of a quarter of a billion certainly helps them there ,so maybe not in the per-capita stakes.

excellent post, Mr. keeper.

judging by per capita stake:

Sweden, Finland, Italy, USA

if we'd include funeral-doom as well ...

Finland, Sweden, Italy, USA

sb should actually prove that scientifically ... Mr.keeper ?
