Maiden weren't the first to do this. They just happened to be the most popular.

I'm just saying that Maiden sounds like a few earlier bands but yet they are credited with that specific sound.

The question was about EARLY Maiden, to me that means pre-Dickinson, and so I wouldn't mention for example Liege Lord's "Master Control"... Maybe annoying to repeat it ;) but Sinister Angel sounds so much like the first Maiden records to me:

I always describe Future Tense to people as a 'satanic' Iron Maiden.

Troma didn't refer to the specific pre-Dickinson Iron Maiden period, he said "the musicianship, especially harmonized melodies and catchy riffing in general."

If for you the three albums TNOTB-POM and of course the immortal Powerslave don't deserve to be part of what this thread is all about, then nevermind ... :?

Based on the more defined desciption of what he's looking for. I'd say he's refering to early Dickinson era.

Well, I for myself prefer the Di Anno area, but some early Dickinson material is also fine

I was more focused on this special kind of powerful riffing, drumming combining with great melodies which I recognise in Savage Grace, Omen and Enforcer and also in the stuff that you guys recommend me like Sinister Angel, Tokyo Blade etc.

Troma, did you check Wikka? Not sure if it is enough for you.

Black Knight - Dead of Knight. Total "The number..." worship.

Elixir - the son of odin ???
I think is a great album with maiden influence.
If you like this, try also MINDCREEPER (great comeback).

about new release:
RULER - evil nightmares CD (from Italy)
listen to "mayday"

also I agree about Sinister Angel, Tokyo Blade (I love the early stuff), Enforcer

Well this made me realise how little I care/think about about Maiden post-80's because in my mind it's like Dianno - early, and Dickinson til "No Prayer" - later Maiden hah :D It was really an "oh yeah" moment cos hadn't even considered anything else :)

Think the "later" style, or just style sought was incredibly abundant in US Metal, and also the French scene, usually heavily relying on Priest or Maiden for cues...

Elixir

although it sounds bit too slow for me :) , I can hear what you mean.

Ruler sounds nice, thanks.

I also found these :

Heir Apparent - Graceful Inheritance
and the first Leatherwolf has some nice maiden-riffing in it.
